I presume this is related to your post in the Kildare forum re your website www.crime.ie?

I was able to log a crime on Kildare Street Dublin - the crime was daylight robbery, my name was entered as Paye Worker and I entered the Collecter Generals email as my email address. This is the inherent flaw in your site - any fictious crime can be entered.

Are you looking specific kind of news or just general news or sports? There are one or two press release sites if you use a tool called google.

basically you have set up a site which asks people to report local crime to you and then report local crime to the gardai.

what benefit can the website give ?
if other people are in the area it MAY alert them to be more cautious, but if they are in the area chances are they would have heard about local break-ins or similar crimes.

ALSO the flipside of that is you will be alerting criminals to which areas the gardai have been recently and basic protocol would be that gardai would be in the general area of a crime or series of crimes...so any criminals would simply be aware from your site where gardai are more likely to be.
(if for example you have 20reports of break-ins in a housing estate in Lucan, a criminal could see this on your site and choose to goto a different area of Lucan or somewhere else to continue his/her crime spree - generally criminals are caught because they stay to the same areas)

did you consider this when creating your website ? you could facilitate criminals by providing them with information on crimes on their patch !!...

your site could also be provided with false information to create an illusion of a dodgy neighbourhood - if some potential homebuyer wanted to drop the price they could use it to falsely create reports of local robberies....do you have a verification process for claims of criminal activity ?

    on a side note

a little advice on creating a website like this - get yourself a solicitor on retainer.

(you are on a pathway for some serious legal issues)

My reply was related to the OP and my spoof post was up on the site for at least 10 minutes - I didnt check a third time. I was just trying to show how an inaccurate report whether deliberate or a typo can squew the data for a particular area or crime type.

Crime.ie has re-affirmed my faith in this country. Only ten crimes in the whole country in June, and only one since the 12th.
