have been reading a lot of diy stuff related to photography recently , on e very simple one was to use a piece of welding glass as a 10 stop nd filter, while this gives a very green cast it is possible to mess about pp , this was my first attempt with it and am happy with the results, what ya all think

I like it. It is a lot less green than my efforts with a welding glass.

    Very smooth image.

    Think you've done well.

you could also use blue tac, your setup sounds better.
btw how did you manage to focus ?

The green cast should just be a simple adjustment in your RAW conversion.

I really must get one of these as there are places here it would work a treat.

focused the scene before i attached lens hood, then i put lens in manual focus and attached lens hood

not as simple as that , had to pp in lightroom set tint all way to 150 then saved then reopend in lightroom again and moved tinit up again till i was happy then , open in ps and use selective colour to bring out the white

There is a thread over on photography on the net that has a lot of ideas and hints on how to use the welding glass to take shots.
They describe a way to set your white balance using a coffee filter to help counter the colour casts and also about sealing the gaps between lens and glass so as to stop light leakage.
