Moved to "work / jobs", not really a work problem.

I think they're creating the jobs over the course of X amount of years, not all in one batch AFAIK. They're primarily based in Ballymount, Dublin but they are also looking for people to work in 30 odd locations across the country. Not sure when applications open - you should ring them to find out.

nope, haven't heard anything despite having relevant experience/certs require for this type of work:(.I suspect that it has something to do with one of the questions they asked.

    what is your desired salary?

    :pac:

The delivery guys from City Post were delivering golden pages/ phone books in Listowel today, Nov.7th. Books were thrown outside every door, regardless of whether the house was occupied or not. Shop fronts having private doors even got them on the double. Have just had a walk around the town, the streets are littered with the books. If their proposed postal service is anything similar, I, for one would not be depending on them with my few letters and packets this Christmas. I do not think An Post have to be worried.

Excellent question , would like to know if that is the case if the '' expenses '' will cover the huge jump in Car Insurance caused by using it for work ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭germanator

i hear there were complaints in some areas, but the people delivering the phone books are not actuall city post delivery people they are hired by city post just for the phone books and have nothing to do with the post delivery... all phone book deliveries are checked up on when the people say they are finished and random calls made to houses in the area... if there are any of the rules being broke the person will not be paid!!

as for the driving of your own car, your fuel cost is paid plus you can either have the extra on your insurance paid for or else you can be covered by citypost insurance within working hours, the latter being my choice as if anything does happen its their insurance paying not mine!

    Hi all,

I was employed by Citypost in late September. They are the worst company I have ever worked for!
I was told I had to use my own car initially but they reassured me that I would have a company van within three months. I was also promised a 45 hour week at €9.00 a hour, loading bay stickers for my car, a warehouse to sort out deliveries, a training day etc!
I worked for this useless company for eight weeks. I took three weeks for them to pay me initially after much bother. I quit the job a few weeks ago as they hadn't paid me for four weeks of expenses and two weeks of wages. They still haven't paid up after many phone calls and emails.

I had one 45hour week in the eight weeks of employment. I never received loading bay stickers for my car so I had to park illegally when delivering in the city. There was no warehouse to sort out my deliveries so I had fill my car to bursting point and do my sorting inside my car which was no easy task.

Stay away from this company. Their system is awful! Their pickups go through "An Post" and it takes up to two weeks. I had complaints every week from clients that their post was taking over a week to get delivered!

I hope this company fails! The sooner the better.

Hope you find something so0n Donogca...

    All the best,

    Thanks Moose31,

No wonder the country is the way it is with these companies treating people like sh*t!

I qualified as a commercial pilot in the late Summer so hopefully I will get a job soon :)

    Cheers

Have you sent in your CV to FR via Caa systems or oaa they normally take on cadets with no jet time,As for city post they will never be able to take on the big players in the parcel delivery game as you need very good infrastructure with depots around the country.
and as for them taking on the likes of an post and to go after the likes of the utilities companies to.deliver their post most people get there bills online or will in the future.

Do Citypost seek proof that staff have upgraded their motor insurance to cover them for work ?
Do they actually require you to produce your certificate ?

I have a funny feeling that they don,t give a flying fook about insurance cover like goods in transit insurance etc also this thing of getting stickers for a private car in order for it to park in loading bays etc is another load of crap.
There is no exceptions to the rules of private cars parking in loading bays end of I have a funny feeling people could be phoning into joe complaining of these company practises,And as someone who has worked in the express logistics I never heard of contractors//employees using there own private cars to deliver or collect pacels/mail.

    Hi all,

donkey balls (great name!), I applied to Ryanair through CAE and OAA but it can be a long wait. Hopefully the new year will bring a few interviews :)

Vanderman, what location are you in? I have been hounding them daily but to no avail. My manager and the HR manager have both quit so I am dealing with another man who doesn't seem to know what he's doing! I am going to take legal action after Christmas. PM to discuss further.

In relation to insurance, I was reassured that I would have company insurance during working hours. I would actually like to see this in writing because I guarantee you I wasn't covered.

Stay away from this company at all costs. If you know anybody using it or anyone working for them please let them know!!

biggest joke of a company i have ever came across,i was made unemployed a cpl of years back and have had no luck getting a job since anyway i saw these positions advertised to deliver the phone books so i said id have a crack at it to try and earn a few bob for the christmas anyway eventually i was called to a company briefing in tralee where a citypost hr person gave us the low down on what the job involved we where to be paid 40 cent per delivery in rural ireland and 23 cent per delivery in urban areas (towns etc) i did my sums and figured i could make a few small bob,you have to use your own van and do not get any expenses for diesel anyway i gave it a go they give you a map of an area and you follow each and every road on the map marking off the roads as you deliver the books there are 2 types;a double set including the golden pages and a single set with just a phone book you might get 300 doubles and 100 singles for an area to deliver anyways i loaded my van with books and started my deliverys it was hard work on man and van but i stuck at it and kept the head down thinking about having a few bob for christmas, when your finished the map you return it to citypost and they will ring a few customers on the route to verify you have delivered the they will pay you anyway i did 3 or 4 maps and sent them back to the company 5 weeks later no money after repeated phone calls i eventually got some money in my account that barely covered my diesel costs after enquiriing from the company what maps i have been paid for they told me and then told me that we where only getting 10cents for the delivery of single books!! there was no mention of this in the contracts we signed and no mention in the briefing we got.i spoke to the person in hr today that gave the briefiing and she said she made it clear at the briefing that it was 10 cent for single books and i and many others that where at the briefing am 100 percent sure that it was not mentioned anyway its a battle with this company to even get anyone to ring you back not to mind getting paid off them, they owe me the bones of 500 euro for the work i have done and its like trying to get blood from a stone
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE A JOB FROM THIS COMPANY DELIVERING PHONE BOOKS

^ I had a similar experience with them when they were still "Door to Door" Everything went very well and there were no disagreements about pay rates.

They took too long to pay, with the result that I could not keep up with the fuel expenses and so I was forced to quit. Struggled to get the balance of cash from them. Very unpleasant experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 john256

looks like i have got to the bottom of my problems as set out above having been contacted by the managing director this evening, all rates how now been confirmed as agreed previously
    thank you city post

Wow John that was hard work reading your comment, I usually hate when people give out about poor punctuation but in this case there is a point to be made, just through and ould comma here and there to split up the text.
The spelling or grammar doesn't have to be spot on in my book but just try to break up the text now and again, your comment is like looking at an sql statement.
Anyway that's beside the point, I was considering doing this kind of work a couple of weeks ago but it just didn't seem right to me, it seemed like a lot of driving without any guarantees.
I'm sorry you had to find out the hard way but if its any consolation to you, I'm sure a lot of people won't go near this crowd thanks to you.

So I was offered a six week contract with Citypost this week delivering directories and leaflets but having read this thread I'm not sure if I should go for it.

Anyone have any more recent experience with them?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭germanator

I have worked delivering the phone books for them which was fine and i had no problems getting paid etc. But i would not do it again unless i was given town locations as i was given rural areas and with the distance between most of the houses it cost me about half of what i made just on diesel!
