According to this report the €70m for the upgrade of RTÉNL's transmission network for DTT is being provided by Barclays Bank Ireland.

No its the debt that they have already incurred. It just means that they can keep paying the likes of Marian Finucane, Pat Kenny, Tubbs Tubridy et al without having to go into insolvency.

    TV Licence Fee:

Same as before there was a DTT rollout. The DTT rollout is an extra cost above the normal costs.

Slightly off Topic, but ain't our licence fee now an absolute rip off. Its been 160 for last 3 or 4 years. Since then thousands of people have lost jobs or taken massive pay cuts(me included) and now we are talking about water charges, property tax and god knows what and we all sit quietly and happily pay our 160 a year. I know the country is "allegedly" kaput, but lets face it that licence fee should be down at this stage to at least €125... all we get are four channels and three other channels showing what we have seen already! give us a break Government...If not I suggest we all refuse to pay the licence fee ever- can they jail us all!!

You should see what some other countries pay.

Thanks for that, doesn't really make ours look too bad in fairness, still hard enough finding the money to pay it though! :(

Yeah, but ours should either be frozen for the foreseable or go back in tandem with all the cuts everyone has taken in pay etc... Lets face it if they put it up by €20 tomorrow what would we all say... Ah sure what can we do:rolleyes:

82% of TV viewers take pay TV and pay more than that for pay TV. Yet over 90% of what they watch are free channels.

Here is the TV Licence thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055794011
