    Hey there,

I missed the CAO deadline to get my application in as an undergraduate. Does anybody know if the college will advertise what courses haven't been filled and if it's available to apply again at some stage? If so, when?

    Thanks

Its unlikely TCD will have any vacant places.

I'm aware of at least a couple of TCD courses which generally don't fill up. Contacting the admissions office is the best course of action.

There will be no vacant places for TCD on the CAO,don't be waiting around for that.

Dont be so sure of that. As said above, there are some courses which don't fill often.

If people switch courses at the very beginning of the year, do they refill the place with a CAO applicant?

There are a small number of courses which never fill up due to unpopularity. The computer science, linguistics and a language courses never seem to fill (To the point where people are offered places by simply fulfilling the matriculation requirements), with only 1 person in C.S.L.L(Irish) this year I think. I believe M.S.I.S.S didn't fill in 2010. The best course of action would be to contact the admissions office :)

Does TCD ever actually advertise them as available places though? I think they just let in whoever has met the matriculation and then that's the points cut off and the course "filled" as far as TCD are concerned. I've never seen any of those courses on the CAO vacant places list.

Are you sure about that? It's actually just a really small course... It jumped to something like 550 points in 2009, so I doubt it!

The reason it jumped is because the points are determined by the lowest accepted applicant, who in this case was a girl who got 550pts. Whatever she got was going to set the points.

AFAIK there are 5 places, but they never fill. Off the top of my head, there is one irish, one french and two german, but I'm not 100% on that.

OP: You shouldnt be looking for whats free, you should be looking for what you want to do. If that means going elsewhere or waiting a year then do that, but dont just pick something cause its available, you'll likely just end up dropping out.

I think the entry requirements for both courses include a C3 in HC maths + HC Language for the CS + linguistics.
