    Hi everyone,

Well I'm still on the look-out for a replacement motor and its getting annoying at this stage. My budget is €5,500 max and the car is required to do a minimum of 250 miles a week.

I'm genuinely puzzled about this diesel/petrol malarky. Is there any need for one with the mileage I will be doing? I test drove this megane monaco yesterday and was impressed with it - what do ye think? http://www.carzone.ie/search/Renault/Megane/SPORT-1./201121202610602/advert?channel=CARS

Also came across this http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2234448 thought it might have better residuals and mpg too?

Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm 21 & male with 2 years NCB so high engined machines are best avoided!

IMHO, no, for your mileage, and your budget, diesel isn't worth it.

You can still buy a diesel inside your budget, but it'll be older, higher mileage, and with more wear'n'tear.

As for not buying 'high engined' cars - 1.8 petrol isn't exactly small, and whilst economical for what it is, will still use a bit, and cost more on tax, etc.

Tbh - I think you should be looking at good 1.4 petrol's. Cheapish, easier and cheaper to maintain than diesels, and some have very good economy (Corolla, etc), and you can buy a more recent one for the same money.

Btw - nice Renault (leather is nice)

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
