Can anyone out there who doesn't work for heating companies or insulation companies just general honest people give me advice.
I didn't think that people could offer advice on there own business on this site.

It's a big decision to change my heating system and I'd be delighted to hear personal experiences. :D

    Hi,

I'm in the same boat as you, but from what I can see, unless your house is a modern super-insulated one, then Air-Water will not work as well as oil.

All the stats for the COP for Air-Water seem to give an average COP of approx 3. But that is average. The COP will be way up high in summer because its so warm outside. But between November and March the COP will be way down below that, to 1.5 or below. And that is when you need the COP to be the best - when you actually need to heat the house. Alot of reports seem to talk about the Air-Water unit defrosting when very cold and as a result its like having an immersion on.

Also - the likelihood is that ESB etc will soon introduce different elec rates at different times with smart meters, so if you need to heat your home at peak times it will be super expensive.

I think that I am going to insulate my house as much as possible, spend a grand or two on slabbing with Xtratherm etc, and buy regular new rads, and an oil condensing boiler.

    Thats what I think anyway.

Independant advice can be got for money.
Check the yellow/golden pages for heating engineers. Ask them for advise only. Pay them, let them show their consultancy contract and read it carefully.

I have posted a few times to tell people my experiences. Fact is oil is very dear and even with a COP of three the savings are huge. Why not contact some companies who will show you the difference. I did and it all workrd out fine.
Again I keep saying what COP is equal to the current price of oil, Answer this question and you will buy a heat pump.
    Hope this is independant enough.

No point in spending out big bucks on fancy heating or solar systems, unless you have a well insulated home.

No matter how modern and fancy the heating the system, heat will still go out through non effeciant windows, doors and badly insulated walls and attics.

Insulation would be 1st way to go,then look at your heating system.

And I dont work for any insulation or heating companies,Im a normal home owner, and thats all.

I got my house fitted out withy energy effiecent windows and doors, and then internally insulated with 80mm insulated slab and also did the ceilings too.

Then I got a multi fuel inset stove fitted.

Then I got both the attic spaces spray foamed with bio-foam

And I have just had a solar panel system fitted too.

A solar system is an arrangement of planets , paddy, around a sun.

Nothing fancy indeed. And free of charge. Well insulated by it's nature.
