I find it quite amusing that people forget certain things!

Every quality album that has stood the test of time did not use "Auto-Tune" on the vox. They simply could sing, they had talent. Due to reality shows and X-Factor wannabees the world music industry is now flooded with people who are tone deaf and actually think they have talent. The influences of today are pathetic compared to the 70's, 80's & 90's. They lack soul & depth. Due to this sad fact the music of today and probably of tomorrow is getting worse rather than better. It's like this....... you have a young guy (lets say 8-12 years old) and his parents and all the music he is subjected to is music like The Stones, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, The Doobie Brothers etc. Now take the same kid and subject him to Oasis, Nervana, Britney Spears, JLS, The X-Factor and oh no......... no...... no......... :(

    See my point?

    Regards,

Oasis and Nirvana are both 90s and didn't use auto-tune, at least if they did the algorithm needs looking at.

I'd agree that the X-Factor gen lacks soul, but not talent.
You can't use auto-tune to take a really poor pitched/timed performance and make it sound good. It doesn't work like that, I wish it did!!
It's only possible to correct minor pitch/timing problems in a transparent manner.
Rhianna's music is heavily auto-tuned but it's used as an effect, not to adjust a poor performance. She's a very good singer.

Many older, soulful, performances are pitchy in spots.

Main stream pop has always been mindless junk, that's the nature of it.
IMO, there are equally as many talented musicians around today as there were in the old days, perhaps more so to be honest.

In the end it seems everything can be questioned debated and still to no avail.... IMO, Many if not most of those "pitchy" performances would really outshine most of today. I'm quite aware of what auto-tune is capable of and what it does.
