This is hillarious and true obviously. Guy gets a ticket for not using the bike lane and then puts together a video showing how dangerous the bike lane can be

Ah feck it, it's worthy of a thread of its own in my opinion.
It IS cycling related after all, and therefore not 'off topic chat'. :D

Brilliant example of guerilla film-making. And he does all his own stunts, apparently.

    What a legend :D
An irate cyclist has pictured himself crashing into obstacles in bike lanes in protest at being hit with a fine.

Casey Neistat, 29, smashed into a police car, taxi, truck and roadworks in New York after he was handed a £33 ticket for riding outside a cycle lane.

He decided to stick rigidly to the letter of the law by staying within the lines and deliberately rode into every obstacle to show how dangerous cycling can be.

Mr Neistat has become a YouTube sensation with more than 700,000 hits in just two days after getting a friend to video his hour-long journey across Manhattan.

During the footage, he said: 'The bicycle lane is not the safest place to be.

'Ticket the people blocking the lanes, not the cyclists.

'They look much more dramatic than they were - the falls. Everything we found, I crashed into. I refused to leave the bike lane.

'I don't feel like the bike lanes are really respected yet.'
But the film-maker said the original aim behind the footage was comedy.

He told the Huffington Post: 'My number one motivation to make this movie was to be funny.

'I’m not trying to rise up against the man. I'm just trying to make a funny movie.'

Know that well; it's a turn-off halfway down Infirmary Road. Tricky to cross the face of that junction as a pedestrian. When I saw they'd added that pedestrian island I thought that it was to help crossing in some way, but it doesn't really. It actually forces you to cross nearer the junction if you're pushing a stroller, because the island is an obstruction with its high kerbs. The footpath is too narrow to accommodate a stroller as well, which means you end up wheeling on the cycle lane, towards a blind corner. Not very satisfactory. Not sure what it brings to the table for cyclists either.

Brave, foolish, dedicated. Or all three. Great video. A gem.

I just wish he hadn't said the bit about "doing the world a favour"...

Watch biker prove futility of NYC bike laws by crashing over-and-over again
Matt Hardigree — After getting a $50 ticket for not riding his bike in the painted "bike lane," this militant bicyclist went out of his way to crash into every obstacle placed in the way of New York City's bicyclists.

I vaguely recall someone mentioning you can report a car illegally parked in a bike lane and it'll get clamped? If it's true, anyone got the number? I'm getting fed up of having buses fly past me at speed only inches away because assholes park on my mandatory lane. It would still result in them being there, but the fine would make them think to **** off somewhere else.

I'm thinking of getting an air horn to scare the hell out of the drivers just sitting in their cars.

I doubt it, who would be allowed, DCC in Dublin maybe, no one else is legally allowed clamp. It hardly solves the issue either as the problem remains there, should reomve the car instead and charge for that, a lot more than a clamp!
