Ford CD 6000 Aux help please

So I finally bought a car after much searching. Its a 2006 Focus Zetec Connection and I'm chuffed to bits with it so far. Lots of extras that I intend getting full use out of. Just need to figure out how to connect my MP3 player to the auxiliary on the CD6000 stereo and all will be well. There's a hole at the back of the glovebox where I suspect the 3.5mm jack goes into but from what I can tell its only a hole and I need to get a part from Ford to route into the Glovebox from the stereo to access this function. Was reading around and from what I can tell I need to order Ford Part No 1426121 and connect to the back of the stereo and into the port at the back of the glovebox. Has anyone out there done this yet? Just wondering if its as simple as it sounds as from my experience these things tend not to be. Is it just a case of clipping the port into the hole in the glove box or do I to go cutting a hole out for the port. Also, is my Ford dealer the best place to get this part, I'm guessing they'll charge handsomely for it, any good cheap online places I could maybe pick one up. Link to pic of the part is below. Thanks in advance

I'd like to know this too. I bought a '07 Fiesta and my radio looks like this

skerry, I know you need to remove the stereo to connect the Aux to the back. You can remove it with these (I'm not 100% sure if they're for your exact model)

Is there no aux socket at the front of your glovebox on the inside? There's a cut out in mine but no socket. Or check around your handbrake.

Found the cable on the Ford parts website. It says it's for my model of Fiesta so I'm going to buy it and see how it goes.

I'll let you know how i get on.

Edit: skerry, I googled it again and found one for your Focus. It's the same model number as the one I linked to for mine but a couple of quid cheaper. Does anyone know if they're the same?

I just bought that part and a set of the radio removal keys from ebay. Wasn't too expensive. I was able to fit it myself (takes few mins). There was a gap in the glovebox where the aux cable could go but I routed it up into beside the gear stick just for handiness.

Where abouts beside the gearstrick did you do it and how did you manage that?

As I said there's a cutout in my glovebox but that'd be awkward evertime I want to use it. I think I'd have to leave the glovebox open?

Did you have to drill any holes?

Fairly sure the Fiesta has it near the gear stick and the Focus one is in the glove box.

You mean the aux socket or the cutout? My Fiesta has the cutout in the glovebox but I don't fancy having to leave the glovebox open all the time.

Can the steering wheel controls skip tracks on an MP3 player with this connected?

Its definitely in the glove box on the 2007 Fiesta's. You wouldn't need to leave the glove box open but you'd have a lead running across if you wanted the ipod just sitting in the tray thing behind the gearstick. I just drilled a little hole and ran the leads under and up. The steering wheel controls won't control the tracks, only the sound.

This is an alternative set up if you're feeling really handy. It refers to a ford focus but its the same radio unit (6000cd)

I've looked at that tutorial a few times now. Seems more complicated.

So does the part the OP is talking about just plug in the back of the stereo? I might just go with that option. I'll probably just leave the MP3 player on shuffle anyway when I'm driving or pick an album. So having it beside me isn't a big deal really.

Ah yeah its a bit more indepth alright but it does give a nice finish.

Basically the kit the OP refers to plugs into the back of the Radio unit and the cable comes around to the glove box. You will need a seperate lead to go from aux in to your ipod/MP3. Its very simple and quick and the sound is good.

Yeah I think I'm just going to go ahead and order the part. I already have a few 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables lying around.

My glove box has the cutout like this. Will the adaptor fit snugly into it?

Thanks for the links Wheety. Might order the removal keys first and have a look at the back. I've read in a couple of places that the lead is in some Focus's but for some strange reason Ford decided to leave it dangling behind the glovebox. There's definitely a port thing in the back of the glovebox so I'm presuming the part fits in there. I'm hoping it clicks in, really don't fancy drilling holes. I'm guessing/ hoping you can close the glovebox while the lead is ran out of it. Like to get it sorted, pain in the a$$ changing CD's the whole time, especially when there's an ipod full of music waiting to be used.

On the handbook it says that the aux point is in the glove box. However in mine (zetec) there seems to be what looks like an aux lead but bigger hole than an earplug link. I imagine it is just a dummy switch that will need to be removed to fit an aux lead but am not sure

shawnee did you try the bigger connection? 6.5mm?

If someone is looking to buy the Part No 1426121 from that fordpartsuk website, it works out at over GBP£50 when they add in delivery (of £25 ) and VAT.

    Cheaper on Ebay.

I don't know the cost of postage but I'm going to email him now.

The cheapest I could find the adaptor for, in an online shop (who deliver to Ireland), was this one:

    http://www.fordsparts.co.uk/product-info/mp3adap

I however ordered one from Ebay from a seller called ford-parts-sheffield. Cost me €23 in total.

A cheaper alternative seems to be this. You plug it into the same socket on the back of the radio but instead of having an aux in socket, you will have a 3.5mm plug that you connect to your MP3 player.

It says the cable is 2m long so you could leave the slack in your glove box and just pull it out when you want to use it.

    Works out at around €15.

    Wheety.

With reference to the photo you posted on the previous page. . . . . We retro fitted a front passenger side airbag de-activation switch to my wife's C-Max and the blank in your glove box is identical to the blank into which the deactivation switch was inserted. Check and double check.

Just an update on this. I received all the parts today and tried it out and it worked great.

Bit of trouble getting the keys in and the radio out. But once I did, it was easy set up. The adaptor came with instructions and they say to drill a 20mm hole near the gearstick (On the Fiesta instructions anyway).

That's were I'm going to put it once I remove the plastic surround around the gear stick and drill the hole.

Finally got around to doing this. Ordered the Aux lead online and the stereo removal keys. Removed the stereo and glove box to find that the lead is already in the glove box taped up. Only needed the little socket that the 3.5mm jack goes into after all that. Just need to drill a 20mm hole in the glove box now and clip the socket in. Sound isn't as good as cd's but I'm using a crappy 3.5mm - 3.5mm jack I bought so I'm guessing a better quality lead will improve it a bit. Can't understand why Ford would go to the trouble of including an aux lead and then not bothering to put the socket on it and hide it up behind the glove box, seriously like!

That cut out is for a a ford dealer to fit a key switch to deactivate the passenger airbag;)
Aux on Fiesta is beside the Gearstick as plug has already said.
to connect an aux yourself you will need this http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_fiesta_mk6__audio_adaptor_kit_352.htm

I was also under the assumption that the socket went into the cut out but after a bit of searching I found that it actually goes into the blank part to the right of it where you have to drill a 20mm hole for it (at least that's the case with Focus's anyway, so the internet tells me)
