iPod USB charger

I have a new iPod touch and need to charge while away from home. I use a 3-pin to USB adaptor for my Blackberry (work) and Garmin watch amongst other things. Can I use my PC cable with this to charge my iPod?

Tried this at home but the iPod wouldn't charge. Is the Apple one a different type? Or why is it that the standard one doesn't?

The ipod touch will work with some but not with others. I had a charger that used to work with my old type nano, but not with the touch. I have a usb charger for a motorola phone and it will charge the ipod touch no problem.
