Question about Junior Cert English exam

    Hi all

I had a group of students sitting their Junior Cert exam today at Ordinary and Foundation levels. The group is one that needed extra support during the year, in terms of reading and writing, etc. A couple of them didn't get to finish their exams today. One got 5 sections done, another got 4 or 4 and a bit done. Can they still do ok in terms of results? I would have been hoping they could get Cs or even Bs. I guess that's not possible now?

Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks from Paulbeth.

It depends on how well they did in the questions they did in the questions answered. They student who did 4 out of the 6 could still get a C. They just get zero for the sections they did not do. The ordinary level paper is hard on timing. My class had the same problem

In all JC subjects, at all levels, the number one reason for failing is not answering the correct number or combination of questions.

It's important to have them trained to leave the rest of the page and move on to the next question if they go over time, then they can go back if they have a few minutes at the end.

OK. Thanks for that to both of you. The thing is that they were ok time-wise at the mock exam. Sometimes, the day of the exam is different, I guess.

Two things, you can and by the sounds of it did do your best. Secondly, results often surprise me and rarely in a negative way...students usually get what they deserve.

Thanks for words of comfort gaeilgegrinds1. I hope I did do my best. Regarding results - they often surprise me, too. Sometimes, students do exceptionally well, even though they haven't done exceptionally well during the course of study. Other times, it's the opposite. There are times when I wish I was a maths teacher of a science teacher - in these subjects the answers are either right or wrong or moving in those polar directions. Not so with English. That's both the beauty and the beast of the subject, I suppose.
