RTE1 series looking for participants

About the House, RTE’s long-running house renovation TV series, is back for a 12th season and we’re looking for people to appear on the show.

About the House follows people embarking on house builds and renovations. Sustainable technologies and environmental design feature strongly in this series and we like to show people who are not only renovating or building homes, but doing it in a sustainable, energy-efficient way.

We are looking for anyone involved in building projects - big and small – who are also making their homes more energy efficient.

Perhaps you are renovating or upgrading a period house. Or maybe you are just converting your attic. Whatever your project, if you would like to appear on the show, then we would like to hear from you.

We need projects that are finished by September/October time and that have either not started yet, or are not too far along.

Please note that we are unable to pay participants.

If you think you might be interested or would like more details, please contact Wiebke at Earth Horizon Productions:
    wiebke@earthhorizon.ie
    01 662 1082

    Thank you.

Might be being cynical here but if you're not paying participants, then surely the only people who will take part will be trying to sell something?

Otherwise, what's the point? I guess you get a second opinion from Duncan Stewart ( and in fairness he seems lovely and very knowledgeable) but surely every one has their own architect/engineer anyway!

How much is Earth Horizon Productions getting paid for it, because I very much doubt you're doing it for free.

Does the concept escape you? They produce the series and are looking for participants to appear in it. I'm sure you can appreciate it is a business and as such you can't expect that your question will be answered.

I find the concept a good one, but very flawed, in that by it's nature TV productions depend a lot on advertising and where better to advertise than on the series itself leaving a huge gray area over the possible promotion of one material over a rival based on who pays for the air time.

Anyone who have posted here over time will have seen numerous posters banned or infracted for attempting to name specific companies on threads, or for promoting one particular product over another, I'm sick of banning people for it myself, but it's for the betterment of the forum. Once you start to let it slip, where do you stop?

On a one to one with clients, it is a different matter because that is what you are being paid to do, provide the best possible solution to each problem at each turn of the wheel, where Tegral provide the solution today Roadstone might be the perfect answer tomorrow, no two jobs are the same and when people start to compromise the end result is not the best possible for the site or client.

Anyway, that's just my two cents, and I suppose I should sign off before I sober up....:)

Doesn't escape me at all. I find the fact they won't be paying participants while themselves being paid deplorable.

? Everybody gotta eat. Do you work for free?

I enjoy the show best of luck with it however i would agree with imax, surely a small incentive would help get people to go on to the show, especially in current climate

I would hope that for once the show might comment on costs. They generally have projects who go for high end retrofits in respect to levels of uprgrades and specification.

It would be nice to see them identify the costs of same as I would prefer they pointed it out than I having to deal with clients who think this is "standard building"

No way. Is this how you want licence fees spent?

Could that argument not also apply to the people who might be appearing on the show?

Those employed to make TV programmes should be paid. Would you expect otherwise?

Those taking part should not. Why should they?

    No of course not.
The people who make the show are doing so as aprt of their job. We all agree that they are obviously deserving to get paid.

The people who appear on the show are doing so out of choice. To have their house featured, for the experience etc. If those things don't appeal to you then don't apply. It's quite simple.

The OP has been quite clear about payment so I can't see how they are being deplorable.

I never said anything about how i wanted licence fee to be spent, it was merely a suggestion that may help the program makers get a better selection of projects to choose from, and lets face it they spend the licence fee on far worse, guests on some talk shows on RTE get paid and they are only taking part in shows why should it be any different for an ordinary guy showing them his project and taking part . Anyway thread is going way off topic and ive said my piece, Best of luck with show hope it goes well

+1. The participants are a key part of these types of programmes, otherwise such programmes are nothing more than infomercials which would dramatically impact viewing figures, which is the bottomline and lifeblood for these shows.

It seems fair that the key participants should be paid at least an appearance fee?

Otherwise it's a mean approach by producers which afterall are being paid by sponsors/advertisers and presumably broadcaster(s)?

If you don't want to do it for free then don't do it. It's really that simple.

This discussion is nothing to do with construction and planning. It's not unique to this show and therefore its not part of the discussion here.

Members of the public are generally not paid for appearances on lots of television shows. It would be great if they were, but ultimately they aren't.

You are free to discuss the issue further on the relevant forum.
Seriously, this isn't the place. end of.

Yea, i have no problem with the idea.

i officially moved in the mini digger into a site im going to renovate for some seriously needed yard clearance and prep work. I have to submit to planning this week and would expect building work to start by January on a 1000sq ft extension to a 1000sq ft 200 year old building

The only problem i see with my participation in the show is the deadline

I will be easily finished by September.

    September 2016 :pac:
