Sigma EX lenses - EX logo difference, any real meaning?

    Hey all,

    Today i got my hands on my newest addition to my lens selection, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Quite pleased with it so far, but one thing I have noticed is that the EX symbol is different (to my 70-200 f/2.8).

    When I googled the lens before, I noticed it was the same as the 70-200.

    Here's the one that I seen on Google, which is plastic lettering that protrudes from the lens;

    and here's the one on my one, it's a glossy, flat symbol, with a red line instead of a gold one;

    Both Images stolen from Amazon's user images.

    I was just wondering if anyone knows if this means anything at all? I used to collect wrestling merchandise (figures, etc.) and logos, designs etc. used to have small changes here and there, usually when an item had gotten a second production run, or when a faulty item got recalled or fixed up and sent out again.

    Never seen this with camera gear though (although I do know Sigma's infamous for focus issues, which I've thankfully managed to avoid thus far) so I was just wondering if there's a reason for it at all?

    Not a serious issue at all, more just a general observation that I'm curious of.

    :)

    EX is the equivalent L I think. It just has superior glass..

    Here's what's on the sigma site:

    Also the difference in look is probably just different regions like in the 2nd picture its the rebel xt which we don't get here.

    Cheers for the reply, Daz.

    I know what EX is, alright, it's just the logo changing on each lens that confused me a little bit. Was wondering if there was a reason behind it.

    It's probably just a minor cosmetic difference. I have one of those for my Pentax. I haven't used it much yet.. but the test stuff I've shot make it seem like a very ****-hot lens. :)
