Faulty product eBay?

I'm fairly new to eBay and everything I bought so far worked great, last week I bought a product from a seller and when I went to use it it was broken and not working properly.

The product is new but I do not believe the seller acted in bad faith as he has 100% positive feedback including dozens of positive feedback for the same item as I purchased. He is an Irish seller and before I contact him I want to know really where do I stand? In the meantime since I have purchased the same product locally and now no longer want and need the product I bought which coincidently was not that expensive only costing €15. I don't want an offer of a replacement just a refund.

The seller has left positive feedback for me and I wonder what resolution to it can I expect?

Ideally I want to get all my money refunded and want the seller to pay postage for me sending the item back which will cost around €5, or he might just say keep it, although I'd rather he get it back for me to prove I wasn't dicking around with him encase he'd think I was trying to scam him or something.

Should I try contacting him first or go straight to paypal? I believe it was a genuine thing and I just got the bad egg so want to deal properly and fairly with it.

Contact him first. He has 100% positive for a reason.

i use ebay regularly so i have a good idea how it works.

you need to first of all see it says on exchange and returns. You need to contact the seller with the information and that you now want a refund that the item is faulty. If you are not happy with the response then you take it to the next step which is paypal.

Paypal insures items up to 500euro so even if the seller goes off the face of the earth there's a possability to get your money back. If your not satisfied with the response of the seller then paypal works as the middleman for you and goes back and forward, if paypal are satisfied that you can do no more then they'll refund you but this is a last resort after contacting the seller first

Paypal will ONLY intiate a refund if you send the item back to the seller.
You will then have to prove that the seller recieved the item back, so you will have to post it back registered post.
You cant claim the postal cost money back either.

I think i understand where your coming from but I got a product that was faulty and the guy disapeared off the face of the earth and paypal refunded me the money and left me with the faulty product.

That was about 2 years ago that that particular thing happened though so the rules may have changed

Then he may have been someone with a record of disputes or someone who had been suspended from ebay etc..paypal are quite good really.. been with them since day one and dont have any complaints..
Mad really, since ebay own paypal, and ebay is such rubbish for sellers right now.
