CSS offering Aksiums today for e125 plus postage (or collect in store). Not as good a deal as they had a couple of months ago, but still a great price for a reliable set of wheels.

I don't think they are strong enough for loaded tour.

I was waiting a while to see if they'd offer them again for the EUR100 that they were the last time, the price of the current offer is making me not really jump at their offer.

There's comparable wheels from shimano [rs10's] at CRC for EUR127, and you don't fall into the "must buy now, must buy now" trap

There is a popular rule of thumb that cheap Shimano wheels are crap. Just saying.

Rider + luggage = 75kg, I think they'll be fine. Look at wheels I had last year:

@Lumen - that's interesting, have you known folks who have the RS10's and think they're not great?

I suppose where I'm torn is that I have a set of Shimano Dura Ace wheels [the alloy tubeless ones, although I run them with tubes and conti gp4000s], and I've found them absolutely great, and really strong. Have run them for 3 seasons' racing and neither front nor back are one bit out of true - hence my impression that Shimano's wheels are good [although as you point out, that might not transpose to the cheaper Shimano wheelsets]

Over the winters I've run Aksiums, and I think they're very good. So if other people think the RS10's just aren't up to it, I'd be interested in their opinions vs. the Aksiums, 'cos I'd go for the Aksiums at that price that they're offered at today.

I've got RS20s on my winter bike and they flex a fair bit if you push it up a hill out of the saddle and I snapped a spoke in just such a situation. Having said that, I still use them and they aren't too deep profile and so you won't get nervous in cross winds.

got rs10's on my bike no problem (even bought spare spokes assuming i'd break a few - being a fat git)

    thinking of getting rs80's

Have a set of RS20's which I managed to badly buckle the front wheel and bend a spoke on when I cycled into a parked car literally right outside my house (don't ask). Was barely moving so not sure how I buckled it so badly. Also have a set of Aksiums which I've used for commuting and winter training without taking any real care of them and had no issues. So I'd go for the Aksiums though I'll admit it's not exactly a fair comparison.

Also have a set of the RS80s and had no problems with them, though treated them a bit better then the Aksiums/RS20's :). Seem to be nice wheels without being anything exceptional. Though I can't say I'd be able to tell the difference.

i just hate the noise the frewheels make an other wheels, mavics arent too bad, but fulcrums and campag and pretty much anything else make a right racket
