Will all cycle shoes fit all clip pedals or do clips and shoes have to be paired maby by type or brand?

On a separate note, would it be easy to install them at home or would a bike shop have to do it... just have regular pedals at the moment.

Easy to do at home. Clips (cleats) match pedals. Clips match shoes. There seem to be two main types for road bikes from the very basic research that I did...shimano spd and look keo.

If you're going to be using the bike with regular shoes on occasion, single sided pedals can work well. I went with these and find them great as a first go at clipless riding. The single sided thing can make clipping in a bit slower, but I found it to be a good trade off.
