Saorview signal drops to 0% every two minutes

Saorview has been down for me for the last two days.

It came back this evening but now I'm getting constant drops in the signal whereby it drops to 0% for about two seconds and then comes back up to 100% or close to it (96 -98%). This is now happening about every two minutes and needless to say is becoming quite annoying.

I'm on the Kilkevearagh transmitter. Previously my signal has nearly always been 100% and I'm in line of sight of the transmitter about 4-6 km away. I'm using a rabbit ears indoor aeriel and haven't had this issue before. I think I'd nearly prefer no signal to the constant drop outs. :(

Has anyone experienced similar or is there anything I can do? A roof aeriel is not currently an option.

I presume you have the aerial suitably positioned on a window cill?

What type equiment are you using to receive ? A TV, a set top box ? You should be able to position the aerial with the TV/STBs signal meter, get that right first. If it keeps happening, check the cable going to your TV/Box that it isnt loose.

It sounds related to either a bad connection or interference from something in the room. Is it an amplified aerial ?

    I do indeed.

Yes I should have specified that. It's a MobiDVT USB dongle going into the PC and I'm using DVBViewer Pro to watch the channels on the PC (WinXP). I haven't yet got a set top box for the TV.

It is amplified aeriel. I can take that out of the loop to see if it makes a difference and also can use a different PC. I shall check tomorrow.

I am seeing a few people reporting recption problems in Munster. Perhaps your local transmitter is undergoing maintenance. Check with the guys in Saorview. It would be nice if they had an update of planned works like in the old days....

Drops like that sound like ignition interferance from a heating system; but the down for two days doesn't...

turn down the ampliication on the indoor aerial. The use of a computer complicates matters !

The problem seems to have disappeared today. I haven't changed anything.
    Fingers crossed it doesn't return.
