Scumbags attacking firefighters - why?

Was reading through some newspaper entries over the past year looking for a piece of unrelated information and came across this from last October. This isn't the first time I've heard of Firefighters or Paramedics being set upon in the line of duty, and I just can't understand the reasoning behind it.

Now, I would never condone or agree with anyone attacking a member of the Gardai while they are trying to do their jobs - those who do deserve a swift trip to a pair of handcuffs and the back of a paddywagon and to be dealt with using the full letter of the law - but at least I can somewhat understand the mindset. Some people grow up seeing the Gardai as nothing but the enemy. But even they must know that Firefighters and Paramedics are no threat to them, and are doing lifesaving work.

Makes me sick to my stomach that there are those who would thank them by attacking them. Scum of the earth

Cos if you knock over a firefighter, stand on his head, beat him with his hose (wahey!), and strip him down and set him on fire, you'll get a suspended sentence.

My old man was a firefighter and he reckoned it was the uniform. He also drove the ambulance and got the same abuse and attcks aimed at him.

its a sad reality that these people dont know help when they see it, I myself am recently qualified as an EMT but as long as Ive been doing first aid I have been helping out when and where needed, I also work in a nightclub so Im needed quiet a bit. In the last year Ive had two incidents that come to mind reading this thread that show the level of respect that people have for the life saving skills I have. Both of these incidents below were life and death scenarios.

1. Woman out with her boyfriend and she suddenly drops to the ground. The bouncers take her to a less busy area and call me straight away. I arrive and quickly realise the woman is having a serious heart attack. I start all the necessary procedures as you do and call for an ambulance, I get my own personal defibbrilator and hook her up until the ambulance arrives. In the time waiting for the ambulance the woman got quiet a few shocks so this was a very serious situation. During this time the boy friend was standing behind me looking on. What I didnt realise until after the ambulance came the dirty scumbag had knocked my wallet while I was trying to save his missus. We had it on cctv but the guards could never recover the wallet or my weeks wages This really got to me as if I hadnt been there the woman WOULD have died without doubt!! Some respect to show the person who saves your girlfriends life...

2. I was called out to the front door where a lad had been in a fight and got stabbed quiet a few times with the knife still stuck in his back. Again I attended him and tried to keep him calm, but his buddy had other ideas and wanted to pull out the knife and get him on his feet ( very dangerous to do and could prove fatal ) As I was trying to control the area I told the "friend" that taking out the knife could kill him and instead of calming down the scumbag turned on me trying to throw a few slaps in, some of the bystanders held him back and I got on with what I was doing. A few mins later he returns mouthing off again.. Next thing I hear a commotion behind me a two undercover cops have this lad nailed to the ground, one of the onlookers asked me if I was ok and should he call another ambulance for me? Turns out the scumbag had tried to slash me in the back with a cut throat razer, Luckily I had a jumper on and it only cut through the jumper!!! Again I spoke to the paramedic who arrived on the scene the following day and he commended my work, turns out the knife went straight through this fellas kidney and had to be surgically removed. Removing the knife at the scene would have killed him in minutes.

In this day and age it really is getting to the stage where good people like myself who try to help are thinking twice about getting involved. Its sad really as it kills me to see somebody in trouble when I know that I have trained myself to a level that allows me to possibly save their life. This is something Im dedicated to and have gone to a lot of expense for training and equipment to be able to help out in these situations. I can only imagine the grief the ambulance and fire personnel are getting on a daily basis. As part of my EMT training I spent time training in a hospital and a good bit of it in A&E and Ive seen first hand some of the abuse that these healthcare professionals have to deal with. The sooner the problem is stamped out the better in my opinion.

You have to understand the mindset of scum. Alot have low IQs and are to be honest, psychotic. Many can barely read. They think like animals and act on their primal urges. They despise anyone different to them and would have no problem killing or torturing someone if they could get away with it. The only authority they respect is someone higher up the thug/gangsta pecking order. The only language they understand is violence.
