Tuesday is one of the best days racing every year. I cannot wait!! :D

    CC vs Goldikova
1st proper 2yo race of the year. Aidan O'Briens Power is the favourite at 3/1

And of course the one everyone wants to see
    Frankel vs Himself.

Epic stuff Baraca. You have me excited now :)

I cannot wait for Tuesday! Sensational day of racing, probably will be the best of this year.

I love the Coventry Stakes aswell, one of my favourite things about the flat is spotting a couple of smart 2 year olds.

The big handicaps are my favorites. They're hard as hell to work out but I like to try. Don't think I'll be betting much in the G1s this year - sit back and enjoy!

    Good work Baraca.

Thinking of ploughing into Canford Cliffs in a fascinating race. His turn of foot should prove too much i think unless Hughes gets him beat like he did with Paco Boy against Goldikova.

Some might say im mad but im going to back Wooten Basset against Frankel, unless Frankel learns to race properly i dont think he will get beat and im taking him on with Wooten Basset. IM sure Frankel will learn from that run but if he keeps going off that quick he will get caught.

Really? Usually in group 1's you can narrow it down to 2 or 3 horses, where the class horses usually win the majority of the time. While in those handicaps you can make a case for alot of horses and where anything can win. I like solving them too but at the end of the day if you want to make money keep your big bets on the G1s and leave the small bets to the big handicaps IMO of course. I respect your decision you may be quite good at betting in handicaps.

Interestingly Cape Blanco seems to be price up at 10/1 for the Queen Anne. Joint 3rd favourite with Dick Turpin. Will he really go for this?

Wootoon basset wouldn't keep up with frankel in a horse box if anyone is going to catch frankel it certainly won't be him.

And what do you mean "learns to race properly"? What's wrong with making all and destroying everything in the field?

The handicaps are more fun. Like you said narrowing it down to 2 or 3 horses is fine but I prefer to watch the G1s unless I think there is a really over priced horse or I think one is definitely better than the other. Take the Queen Anne for example - I won't be touching the race with money. Thats a watching race if ever there was one. I do ok in the handicaps, found some nice big priced winners last year so I hope it continues but tbh, I've been so busy this year I haven't really been on top of the form.

Think I'll have to start form study today if I'm going to get a handle on things - already lost a fair bit of money on ante post withdrawals

I don't think Frankel will be able to destroy an older field like he did at Newbury and better travellers like CC and Goldi will put him up to it but Wooten Bassett would struggle to cross the street with him never mind 8f.

The advantage of the big handicaps are the fact that the favourites usually start about 6/1 or 7/1 so you get to pick couple against the field.

Also get specials where they pay 5 places. I like backing 3 against the field in these cases. Good chance to make some money.

Workforce won't face So You Think. Why does that not surprise me?
I've no time for Stoute. Juddmonte don't want to take on a true horse by the looks of it.

Lady of the desert out of the golden jubilee now, Sickened really thought she would make up into a very smart sprinter this year couldn't wait to see her out this year. Being prepared for the july cup now but with being off the track for so long and not having a prep run by the sounds of it, She'll be run off her feet by race fit horses. Shame. Hopefully she'll be primed and ready to go for the abbaye.

Wont be able to avoid team Ballydoyle for long. So You Think & St. Nic will take in every 1m4f Grp1 this season between them. Should be proper battles.

Agreed Higgins. Juddmonte are pussies. That's how Twice Over has gotten a good name. He'd get stuffed by St Nic or So You Think.
World Cup race isn't particularly strong either.

Really cant wait for some great racing if i have any discipline i will wait to keep money for Ascot, but im sure i will be backing in sellers tomorrow.

The horse Frankel beat in the Greenham, Excelebration, won the German 2000 Guineas 7 lenghts. Whatever way you cut it the horses Frankel have beaten in all his Group wins have shown terrific form since. Treasure Beach, Roderic O'Connor, Excelebration, Dubawi Gold. (even Native Khan ran ok in the Derby)

Who do ye think is going to finish 2nd to Frankel in the St James's Palace?
I'll be backing Dubawi Gold for the forecast. Should have won the Irish 2000 Guineas and also proved that his Newmarket Guineas run wasn't a one-off by running so well at The Curragh. Hopefully Hughes won't feck it up too much this time. Wootton Bassett a dodgy stayer IMO. Excelebration probably didn't beat very much in German 2000.

Also, does anyone else think that Fame And Glory's form is a huge class above his Gold Cup rivals? I think 5/2 could be a fair price. Winner of Irish Derby, Coronation Cup, Tattersalls Gold Cup etc. Only beaten 5L by Workforce in last year's Arc. He seems to me to be a horse who only just does enough to win his races so he's never going to be ultra impressive. Stayed on well in Saval Beg, looks like he's got a more than decent chance of staying 2m 4f.

From his races he looks like a horse that wouldn't get 2m 4f in a horsebox, but he does have a bit of stamina in his pedigree and I think he will get it because of that. The reason he is 5/2 in a poor enough race is probably due to concerns over his stamina. I think he will get it though, but his performances weren't overly inspiring.

I have a soft spot for Kasbah Bliss. Each way at 16/1 if he turns up,there would be much worse bets than that.

A lot of money for Mezmaar today for the Coventry. Now 4/1 fav. A nice horse but he'll have the handicap of Richard Hills riding it.

Rite of Passage out of the Gold Cup

    From the ATR website:
Last year's winner Rite Of Passage is the major absentee following the confirmation stage for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot next Thursday.

Dermot Weld's seven-year-old was a creditable third behind fellow Gold Cup aspirant Fame And Glory on his seasonal reappearance in the Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown, but the trainer revealed earlier this week he had suffered a setback.

Connections had hoped the chestnut may be able to defend his crown, but he is now ruled out of the two-and-a-half-mile showpiece.

Fame And Glory takes top billing among 16 entries, with connections of Blue Bajan taking the decision to supplement him at a cost of £25,000.

John Gosden's Yorkshire Cup winner Duncan is another major player, while Jamie Osborne is set to saddle Geordieland, who has been placed three times in this race but has not been seen since September 2009.

Kasbah Bliss and Brigantin are the two possible challengers from France, while Holberg, Opinion Poll and The Betchworth Kid are other possible runners.

Dick turpin unsurprisingly out of the queen anne, Hopefully goldi can get my week off to a flyer.

Frankel looks like facing arguably his toughest field yet in the St.James including Dream ahead, Zoffany, Wootton basset, Excelebration, dubawi gold and the japanese horse grand prix boss. Having already beaten three of these horses it's impossible to look beyond another frankel win but will be very exciting to see him out again.

Getting close now here's to a great week of racing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 453 ✭✭Denners.ie

There seems to be value in the Queen Anne. It is essentially a match bet between CC and Goldi who are priced 5/4 and 6/4 respectively. I think these are very fair prices if you are on the colt or the mare.

6/4 Goldikova in essentially a two horse race you'd be mad not to be on.

There is heavy rain forecast for Ascot, hopefully the ground won't be too soft as it will spoil the contest between Canny and Goldikova.

Grand Prix Boss is attracting me in the SJP. I don't think Frankel will be beat but this horse is worth a shot at the odds as he could be anything. He was a champion 2 year old in Japan last year but his first two appearances were disappointing this year in two Group 2's. He won a Group 1 last time out and is sent over to this as a result. He has drifted to 25's from 14's which is probably due to the potentially soft ground which he won't favour.

Yet to make my decision, but might lump on either treble of- Canford,SYT,Frankel at 7/2 or Goldikova,SYT,frankel at 4/1.

Heart says Canford, head doesnt have a bloody clue!

Would everyone be confident of Frankel and So You Think winning?
Been watching So You Think races last few hours, very impressed.
I've nearly convinced myself that it could be a bet to nothing If i go for either treble and then back either Goldi or Canford to cover my bet.
Although this expected rain Denners speaks of could fcuk it all up.
    What do you think?

So You Think is a class horse but I wouldn't discard Planteur totally. He has a lovely turn of foot and I think the track might suit him.

Frankel looks rock solid, only concern would be has he bottomed out since the Guineas which doesn't seem to be the case from reports of him on the gallops etc.

If the ground is soft/good it would suit Goldi better as she has a few wins over these conditions. However, very soft will be horrible for both as CC has never run on anything worse than good and Goldikova can't pick up on anything too soft. If it is very soft I wouldn't be surprised to see Cape Blanco run a big race, he would need to be run aggressively though as he isn't a miler imho.

The firmer the ground the better it would suit CC but anything other than good ground and you could make excuses for either horse which nobody wants.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭LFC5Times

Canford Cliffs hits most of the trends over any other horse in the Queen Anne so will be siding with him, but if any horse could buck a few trends it would be Goldikova!!!

The ground is good/firm at the minute in Ascot, hopefully it won't rain solid for 2 days and we can get good ground at least.

According to Matt Chapman on ATR it's been raining steadily at Ascot this afternoon.
Although since they put in the new drainage there, the course dries very quickly so hopefully they'll have a dry day tomorrow and the ground might still be okay for Tuesday.

Pricewise is due a few winners. I'm hoping he has them at Ascot. Though he only had 2 last year and 3 the year before.

8.5mm over last 24 hours and the going changed to good to soft this morning.

No further rain expected though so could be back to good by tomorrow.

    Here's hoping anyway.

With the ground expected to be no worse than good-soft I am surprised the Goldikova backers haven't smashed into her yet.

Arctic may be overpriced at 50s for the King Stand. Tracey Collins is not stupid and she keeps putting this one in at the deep end. She had Oor Jock placed at 33s at Cork against Inexile t'other day and if she has Arctic fit enough I reckon he could easily out run his odds

    Queen Anne Stakes 2011

The straight track going is looking very probable of being a good surface so we should have the epic contest we all hope for. I think everyone has to admire what Goldi has done but I really hope Hannon gets revenge for last year.

"We are under no illusions how tough it will be to beat Goldikova, who is a 13-time Grade/Group 1 winner, but the French mare cannot possibly be getting any better at the age of six, and we will sit a bit closer to the pace and hope to do her for finishing speed, like we did Rip Van Winkle at Goodwood last year."

No surprise that Canny won't give her an inch and Hannon has it spot on here. Canford is such a great traveller that she won't get much from him and hopefully his speed will do her inside the last furlong. He is going to be perfectly wound up for this and he will definitely have come on from his run at the Lockinge. His turn of foot will be electric tomorrow and hopefully Hughes will keep him clear of any trouble, he has had some shockers over a mile this year.

Time to nail the colours to the mast folks, if Goldikova wins I will bow in awe of her but I'm fully behind the machine tomorrow.
