Sorry all, found stuff about these flaps but nothing applying to my wifes 2006 Opel Zafira 1.6 petrol, 55K kilometres on the clock.

Engine management light came on at times and local garage has diagnosed the swirl flap as the culprit. We were just told that "the part" was 400 Euro plus VAT and then labour on top...

Anybody here have experience with this issue? Is a used part an option here? Maybe even know part numbers or where to source the part(s)?

Not really in the position to fork out 600 or 700 Euro for a repair...

    Thanks all.

The swirl flaps are part of the inlet manifold. That is why it is dear as you have to buy the complete manifold. Second hand is an option but there is always the chance of it happening with the new one and end up doing the job twice. While its not a very common problem with them, I have seen one or two go before. You would be very unlucky to have it happen again but there is always that chance. If you go for a new one it will have a 2 year warranty.
