My mother's just had her hip replaced, and she's feeling a bit down. She is not a big makeup wearer but she has to get her passport photo done and also a wedding coming up. I wouldn't mind getting a few new ideas myself. She's 64 and I'm 38. I don't mind sitting in Clerys or Arnotts and having it done but she would feel self conscious. Is there anywhere - that wouldn't cost a fortune - that we could go. I went to Makeup Forever before and hated it, really liked Benefit but Mam just won't sit in the open.

Boots in Liffey Valley have a Beauty room, you could ring one of the counters there and ask if they can arrange a makeover in there? It's a private area away from the shop floor.

YvesSaintLaurent is generally good, as you're facing away from people walking by, and their make up is amazing too. Don't know the cost of it. I got my make up done there twice and found it really good. I hate the people who stand and stare at you getting your make up done, so I was more comfortable with them just seeing the back of my head

    hi there,

i work for a make up company myself.
Boots in liffey valley do indeed have a beauty room but its only for specific counters to which i am unsure of. with regards to the cost of a make up lesson, they are generally free because u mostly will gain knowledge of application and your consultant will use products specific to your skin type, eye shape colouring etc. so u will more then likely want to recreate the look he/she does for u and will end up buying want u feel will suit u and also more importantly wat u will get the most out of. from experience though, many people dont even notice anyone sitting down at a counter even if it is out in the open!!! some people even come in wit rollers in their hair!!! make overs however cost between 25-35 euro which is generally redeemable against products or else some counters have a 2 product purchase rule. hope that was helpful!!!!:D
