Car Hire Spain

I am planning on driving from Reus to Benicassim this July, but there are 6 of us, and we'll all have luggage. I'm doubtful whether some of the 7 seaters will fit both bodies and luggage but maybe I'm wrong on this front - would the likes of an Opel Zafira do or should I just accept the fact that I'm going to need something more like the size of a Mercedes Vito??

Also, I don't even know which car hire company to go with either, but if I can sort out what kind of people carrier I need I'll take one step at a time!

All help much appreciated as I am completely clueless on this front!

    Thanks a mill

Best bet, look in a garage for an appropriate sized car, then try rent one like that.

The clue is in the name though; People carrier, not luggage carrier. A standard 7 seater has 2 seats in the boot, so if you put 6 people in, there is virtually no room left inside for anything else. A mini-bus is what you will need.

I think you are going in the right direction as Opel Zafira will not be able to accommodate all of you with your luggage but a Mercedes Vito will do. You may refer to http://www.pointcarhire.com/spain/index.html as this rental company offers large fleet of cars which will certainly help you to extend your search.

    Was nice helping.

Hi folks we are going to Marbella Sunday week for 5 days and then driving the south coast for another 6 days ending up in Seville fingers crossed.

Two questions for the kind members on here

    (A) can people recommend a good car hire company

    (B) maybe do's and dont's of driving south of Spain ( this is not as important as car hire )

    Thanks in advance folks

Hi you can try the following:
    Do You Spain - www.doyouspain.com
    Economy Car Hire - www.economycarhire.com

I have used both and are reliable with decent prices. Obviously you can use the big names like Hertz, Avis but you will pay around 25% more.

Regarding do's and dont's - use common sense, similar rules to Ireland like no mobile phone etc. Also no kids under 12 in the front.

Busy motorways like the A7 are mad to get onto - they are fast busy roads and you have to pull onto them from idle in a lot of places, so quick acceleration is necessary - there is no merging onto the A7 out of most towns.

    Enjoy!

    I'd recommend

    http://www.amigoautos.es/

    http://www.solmar.es/

They're usually (but not always) way cheaper than the big international brands.

I'd recommend carhire3000.ie. Booked a car with them last month for spain trip and all went smoothly. Best price too. Recommend to buy car hire excess insurance seperately as cheaper and clears excess if you have an accident. Costs about 25 euros/week while car hire companies will be double that.

    http://doyouspain.com

    http://carjet.com

These are by far the cheapest. I would not get the Opel or a Ford people carrier as I have in the past and the extra seats are really just your boot where you will need to put your luggage. Pay the extra and get the Merc Vito as it would be prefect.

    Read the fine print!!!

Some car hire companies in Spain make you buy a full tank of petrol when you first hire the car instead of refilling it to the top when you bring it back. This worked out for us at 70euro.

I second carhire3000.co.uk (the UK site always seems a bit cheaper than the Irish one) I have used them for the US and found them cheapest by a mile and no issues with the car hire itself. They are a broker for all the main hire companies, so you will probably find that your car hire is with Dollar/Hertz etc.

I recommended them to two work colleagues for France and Spain and they both found them cheapest and had no issues.

I used http://www.hispacar.com/ in Malaga (they have other centres) and found them very good. They had a number of big cars/transit type vans in their garage.

I have used http://www.malagacar.com/ and found them good. Am online just now looking for car hire in La Rochelle, France, and found http://www.autoeurope.ie to be the cheapest.

Anyone got any recommendations on Excess insurance, and also which covers the stuff the CDW policy excludes, such as wheels and under-body etc.

    Thanks.

    John
