Don't want to bury myself before the Wicklow 200 but I might give this a go. I have never done an open race but I assume I can pay up on the night with my club competition licence and be put into A4? Do A4s and A3s go off together or is there a handicap?

Im in (subject to me negotiating my way out of the house). 2nd open race - hopefully this one wont end with a broken bike and body.:D

last year A4's got 90 secs.

We stayed away from all but one of the 3's who bridged solo and then dragged us around. He won think Jimbo got 2nd I was 4th and staro was beaten by a 59 year old into 6th.

    What's the circuit like?
    Any drags or hills?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

    That would be telling.

Do we have confirmation of which course we're using? Is is Ardcath or Clonalvey. Both can roll out of Garristown.

Plenty of hillocks whichever way you go

Presumably Ardcath, as this is the course they have used previously (and has a better road surface and much less traffic)

    Haven't a clue.

its a tough rolly course and the finish is difficult as well. I would like to go but I have picked up a groin strain so I am extremely doubtful...last time I am doing a Ryan giggs after a race !!!!

Net ascent is pretty much zero;)

    Last year's course here

Not sure how many loops of the Ardcath circuit they will be doing - I would guess 4 as that would give a total distance of about 55km

I don't suppose anyone would have a jersey to lend for the evening (L/S or S/S in medium or Large), which i will happily return clean for the next wednesday league race.

Forgot that my jersey was in ribbons from skidding along the road:rolleyes:

Has a distance been confirmed yet?

I'm hearing it could be the Clonaley ciircuit tonight , Probably bumpier esp that shocking bit of raod after the main road and I guess the finish at the school in Clonalvey. Not a hilly finish but draggy.

When they used that course in the club league a couple of weeks ago the finish was just before the main road out of Garristown, which is quite flat.

The back roads are at least quiet, but there can be quite a lot of traffic on the main road at times

Looking forward to Lusk Doyle and kennyb3's race reports - try to be brief guys (shouldn't be difficult;))

I was marshalling about half way round the lap - these was a short run into the course and then 4 laps of the Clonalvy circuit

I am led to believe the A4s had a 2 minute head start - by the time they arrived at my corner they were looking remarkably relaxed considering the A3s were less than 10 seconds behind

On the second lap there was a small break of 4, only a few seconds ahead of everyone else - but it included Raam and Ryaner, which meant if they could stay away until the next hill they had a chance, However it had all come together for the next lap and on the final one a solo rider had got away by a few seconds - I don't know the final result, but suspect he was caught

I'll try and piut some pictures up later

Har, har!! Like beasty says the a4's rolled along for half the first lap at a snails pace. We were caught, some a3's attacked off the front the bunch speed when flying up and dropped after a lap. Game over

    Must do better!

Ah well plenty of time to roll around and pose for the camera's.

Finished in a bunch sprint, think a swords lad (shaungil??) got 2nd or 3rd.

Staro got third. Shaungil was involved in a crash in the last 500 and is off getting xrayed or something. A lad from Eurocycles won and a Lucan chap was second.

just out of Beaumont some pretty sore bruising on my back but just muscle damage they reckon and some nice road rash up my left side. Painkillers are kicking in now which is good.

As enjoying the race till the end had a few digs off and at the front. In sprint I was passed and over taken I went to try and get back by as my front wheel wend right the wheels in front went left and I came down and landed on road and bounced into ditch. Was pretty lucky considering we were going close to full tilt at the time.

Ouch! Good luck with those back muscles!

Circuit looks remarkably dry. It was bucketing at 6.30 ish in Dublin 5.

Hope the back heals up well, shaungil.

    Jaysus - I didn't even start until I was 49!

Having said that, I won't do Open Races - I'll stick to the club and vets leagues - speaking of which there are still a number of guys racing well into their 70s (one of them is 79), so you still have a long career ahead of you killalanerr;)

I wouldnt worry too much about it - that was pretty much an A3 race in fairness. Look for an A4 only race and im sure you ll be fine. I was in the same boat with getting dropped early - but im not too disheartened this is my first full season racing (did 3 club league races last year in group 1) and was only my 2nd open race ever (and just back after injury - is that enough excuses??:)) so expecting to stay with A3's is a bit much at this stage. Thats a step ahead and for next year or the year after
