Yes indeed, Sepp Blatter in his own wisdom has appointed Placido Domingo, a Spanish Opera Singer and Henry Kissinger, a 88 year old former US Secretary of State to his "Council of Wisdom"

More bull**** from FIFA, what on earth can these two figures do to solve the game's problems and bring it forward. Johann Cryuff is also on the Council but why don't they have more people who have played the game or involved in it other than just the administration side to try and run it instead of this. They would have a far better idea of what is wrong and how to fix it, and they may not be influenced by their own pocket as much either. Unbelieveable really.

Henry Kissinger is a pretty good person to have on your team.

Why? Apparently he has "an interest" in football and helped bring the World Cup to America in 1994, but what qualifies him to help govern football - and at 88 years of age, what can he do?

    That's kinda.... weird.

Yeah it's FIFA we are talking about, it's just a made up title anyway. It's not like the Council of Wisdom will have any power.

tbh a lot of what Fifa do is dealing with politics and legal issues not everyone involved in their organisation needs to be a footblall guy and when it comes to politics and legal issues this guy is the Trapatoni of that relm and no matter what you say its always handy to have a guy who was united states secretary of state when it comes to such matters. He wont be deciding if they change the rules of the game afterall but may be of great help implementing any changes the football guys come up with

Henry Kissinger. Some things you should know about him:

He helped break down the Soviet Union through his policy of detente.
He ended US involvement in Vietnam.

I'm pretty sure he can handle one sporting organisation.

And even if those two things weren't enough for you, he has:

Played key role in getting World Cup to United States
Public Member of the US Olympics Committee
Played key role in reforming of Olympics.

Sounds like a perfect appointment to me.

ya but you fail to mention he has been bosom buddies with blatter for years...i.e. Blatter is appointing his buddies to deal with fifa problems i.e. it's a cosy old boys club i.e. nothing will be done

what is needed is an independently appointed disciplinary commission but that will never happen for 2 reasons

    1. fifa wouldn't let them access any of their files (Swiss law is unbelievably lax on corruption/business-related stuff) so no doubt after a year or 18 months the head of the independent commission would resign citing fifa stubborness/unwillingness to co-operate and blatter and his fifa cronies would then start the propoganda war saying something like "we did everything that was required of us, the truth is they couldn't find anything substantial and fifa's reputation is restored"

    2. if any independent commission was appointed and had real powers then they would find a whole ****storm of stuff that would implicate blatter, havelange, fifa and all their cronies and hangers-on including politicians, ceo's and ex-pros goinging back almost 40 years in underhand, corrupt and criminal activities. the fallout would be unreal, so just like the banks fifa are too big to fail and it's sickening

"Council of Wisdom". It sounds like something from an episode of South Park.
