Hi Folks

I bought a new Trek 1.2 last October. About 2 months ago I had to get the chain and cassette replaced under warranty which was ok. Dropped my bke in for a service over the weekend and they said that the chain has been stretched and that it needs another new chain and cassette. They are going to charge me €50 for these parts. That's ok as I should be able to replace these under warranty also. I cycle about 130kms a week to and from work. The thing that is worrying me though is will this have to be done every 2 months as I don't fancy having to fork out €50 every 2 months. Has anbody ever experienced anything like this or have any advice on this issue?

I just replaced my chain after 2000 miles. A cassette should last 4 chains.

If you keep it clean and look after the group set in general there should be plenty of wear in it.

Get a chain wear indicator and chain tool and the chain swaps yourself.

€50 isnt a bad deal for a chain and cassette fitted.

But you should be getting longer than 2 months out of a chain, thats if you clean and degrees your chain regularly.

I usually change my block when i'm replacing the chain, as a new chain will wear quicker on an old block

where is offering to replace chains and cassettes under warranty? never heard of it before.
8 months is a reasonable time for chain and cassette wear(don't believe me- do a search) component wear, i have never heard of being covered. but hey, maybe i am wrong.

yup, i've never heard of that either, sounds like a good place to shop!
