Garages as buying/selling venues.

I think maybe there's a trick here that the garages are missing, everyone agrees that buying and selling car's privately is a nightmare sometimes, worries over security (money), is the car mechanically sound etc, why not charge a nominal fee at the Garage as a venue split between the seller and buyer, and also have test and evaluation facilities on hand, you could even agree too meet at the garage your car brand is sold from meaning expert knowledge and ready access to it's service record, if any, Just a thought, feel free too rip into me if it's a daft idea.

They have their work cut out selling their own stuff without helping private sellers out ;) What you are suggesting is like bringing your own food into a restaurant, throw €2 at the chef and he shows you how to cook it.

For me, one of the advantages of buying privately is that I get to meet the seller at their home.

I'm talking service garages mainly not retail.

Don't the AA already do this?

Why not just buy a car from the dealer who has already done the checks etc on his stock (Primetime will check that no doubt!)?

No harm with some extra competition, might help drive the price down, cheaper for us, my main point was the security/fraud aspect, not all of us are knowledgeable about the buying/selling process, a safe, neutral venue with expert opinion on hand might help assuage a lot of worry for both parties.

That option isn't going too change, I'm just thinking extra revenue for them in a collapsed market and a nice safe venue for us.

........ so to summarise you are essentially suggesting non car retailing garages carry out pre purchase car checks for people ?
