Beginner cycle event?

I just got a bike so I could get fit. I'd really like to set myself a goal of participating in some cycle event in maybe September.

Something that is between 30 - 50km I think will be acheivable. I am coming from a very low base of fitness. As an example I did 12km yesterday in about 50min and it was mostly flat.

I came across the 50km Kelly cruise which would be ideal but it is at the start of July and I don't think I would be ready for that, so does anyone know of any events that are on at the end of aug/start of sept that would be suitable?

    cheers,
    mel.b

    It's August 28th

Great event, huge amount of cyclists, and the local populace cheer you on like there's no tomorrow.

    Ahh, thanks for that :)

I had downloaded the 50km training programme and saw that on that it had the 2nd July which I thought was the day of the event, but now I look it is the day of the start of the training programme.

My mum is arriving from Australia around that date, so providing she's not landing on the 28th I'm going to sign up and give it go:D

Looks like an interesting event. Is something like this feasible on a hybrid/commuter bike ?

    Yes - I did the WW200 on a hybrid 2 years ago

You need a decent gear range for the WW200 or Sean Kelly Tour though
