Ok guys, especially all of those in the Cork,Midleton area,it's time for a rant,i was on a trek towards dungarvan from Cork on sunday morning and the descent on the old dual carriageway as you approach midleton could hardly be described as a road at all, it's basically a million potholes and a ton of gravel for about 1Km on a descent, meaning you have to cycle out into the main road with cars flying by your elbows at 120 Kph.
I see plenty of cyclists on this stretch of road so it can't have gone unnoticed but i'll be amazed if there is a worse stretch of road in Ireland than this.
I actually think it's a miracle no one has been killed on this section of "road".

There is a sign on this road near Carrigtwohill saying there will be lane restrictions from tomorrow until the end of August. I believe the road is going to be resurfaced from Carrigtwohill to the Lakeview roundabout. I recall reading this in the local paper a few months ago...fingers crossed.

I agree that stretch of road is in appalling condition...but that's amazing timing for your rant because work on resurfacing the eastbound carriageway (from Carrigtwohill to Midleton) starts tomorrow morning! Apparently, we can expect lane restrictions every day during off-peak hours until the work is complete on Friday 19th August. No details yet on when resurfacing of the westbound carriageway will happen.

I didn't know about the resurfacing works but certainly not too soon. Now just the rest of the country to repair, balinadee to Inishannon is another piece of crap but one step at a time, ;)

We were on a charity cycle the other direction on Saturday and left cork heading for Dungarvan but went on local roads to midleton. That was also a bad surface but at least it's quiet. Could you go that way?

I mapped the following some time ago in reply to a "how do I get from Midleton to Cork without taking the N25?" question in this forum. The route runs along the local road between Midleton and the Fota Resort which I presume is the one to which ashlee is referring.

The road is fairly rough in places between 2&5k on that alternative route - but at least you're off the side of the dual carriageway.
