Generic Laptop Batteries

    Hi,

Apologies if there are similar threads already on this topic...

I'm looking for a replacement battery for a Dell Inspiron 6400 at the minute (originally 9-cell, 85Wh - Type KD476) and was wondering if anyone has bought a generic battery (any type) from ebay or elsewhere before. Would like to get some info on reliability/performance and any recommendations for good retailers/sellers if possible.

The laptop is almost 5 years old so its not worth spending loads on a new dell battery - so something cheap would be great!

    Thanks!

www.amazon.co.uk is your best bet IMO. Got a Packard-Bell charger for £13 a few weeks ago. Made by Delta Electronics.

Thanks Kristopherus. Decided to try amazon - at least there's usually plenty of detailed feedback. Ordered a battery and charger today, will post on the verdict when they arrive in case anyone would be interested!

Please do - I have the same laptop and the battery just died today so I'd definitely be interested in how the amazon replacement works out.

Both the battery and charger arrived on Friday (17th) so delivery time was pretty good! I ordered a 'New Trent' 9-cell, 6600mAh battery (http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Trent-Battery-Inspiron-Latitude/dp/B004C4BWCK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=computers&qid=1308486654&sr=8-3). However, the specs on the battery casing say that it is a 7200mAh model. The majority of the reviews on amazon are very positive and I have to agree that so far I can't fault the quality of the battery in any way. It worked first time with my machine; no problems with compatibility or recognition of the non-dell product. The duration when fully charged is shown as 4+ hours when the screen brightness is turned down with wi-fi on (haven't recorded the actual discharge time yet but the estimate seems pretty close).

Considering that the battery only cost €35, if it continues to perform well long term, then it wouldn't even be worth considering buying the dell original product (I think it was €160).

The charger I bought is branded "Saige". Much bulkier than the original but seems to do the job OK - €12. The lead that is fixed to the charger unit on the original had broken some time ago.
