I have a 01 polo. recently the gears have been difficult to change and over the last few days I have had to stamp on the clutch to get the gears in. Has anyone else had this issue ? does anyone have an idea what it could be ? my diagnostic would be a new clutch cable, but I know very little about cars.

I am not familiar with polos, but maybe it has an hydraulic clutch. If it has maybea leak,If not the cable may need adjusting or possibly worn clutch itself.

The dearest would be the clutch if it is that but might not be, you hope:p.Can you see a cable roughly coming out where the pedal is in the engine compartment?

Did a little digging for ya and found this, maybe similar

Polo of that era had a clutch cable. Similar thing happened my sister's old Lupo (same mechanics as the Polo) and the clutch cable became slack and needed to be adjusted. Not a big job if it is the same thing.

Check to see if the cable has pulled thru' the bulkhead.

my mechanical knowledge is very slim, so I will see what youtube has to show me about clutch cables and bulkheads.

Driving to the garage and the clutch fully went. It's in the mechanics hands now.
