Ok well everyone is always saying for the functional writing that reports are the easiest to attempt, even my teacher! But, theres a set layout right? I cant find it anywhere? Anyone want to enlighten me? :/ Functional writing is my worst section, i only got 13/30 in the mocks, for a speech i wrote, that i actually thought was pretty good... but either way, if reports are infact easier, could someone help me out? :)

1."Terms Of Reference" e.g to examine and report on the suitability of the canteen facilties in the school.

    2."Requested By" e.g school prinicpal, 20th june 2010

3."Facts and Findings" e.g you took surveys , asked people ,observed. and then what was the main concerns or findings..

4."Conclusion" e.g canteen is in a bad condition, no techer there

    5."Recommendations" e.g cleaner , get supervision from a teacher.

    hope that helped!!

I dunno about reports but I would always do a letter of some kind. If you're writing a formal letter this is the layout I use:
(Any letter to do with a problem you want solved)

    1)Why you're writing it

2)Experience of some sort with what you're talking about

3)What you want done to solve the problem

    4) Why you think what you are talking about is important, And good reasons for why something should be done about it based on what you've written above. Persuasive language here is needed. And strong finish.

The above can be used for any letter really, not just a problem. Most letters you have to write about will be about a problem you want solved, me thinks. If not then the basic idea of I have above can be used in nearly every type of letter.
I'm not sure about reports. I'd personally stay away from it and stick to the formal letters. (As long as they come up)

Haha you're me, I wrote a letter to the editor for Functional Writing in my mocks and I thought it nearly deserved full marks and I only got 21/30. Apparently my writing style is too light-hearted for functional writing, ah well. I hate reports...does anyone know if I have to include the headings e.g. Conclusion, Recommendations...I'm only asking because I have different headings to what the first person said, but the reports would essentially follow the same routine in the end.

I got 30/30 in the mocks for functional writing, on a letter about the environment. I just made up a load of bullsh1t about how much I "cared for the environments future", even though if I'm to be honest, I couldn't give a sh1te :D:D
