Dixons in the Airport has the Nikon D3100 SLR camera with 18-55mm lens for €417.

Its €599 in Cons or €650 in Harvey Norman.

They also give you 25% off a case and €10 off memory cards when purchased with camera.

That's pretty cool!! I'd snatch that up if I didn't already have a SLR.

Hmm, I have a D40 with kit lens, and am travelling through Dublin airport this week... I wonder how much the D40 kit could get second hand?

It's only about €20 more expensive on amazon in America, might just leave it and decide later.

I only recently got this camera (490 euro off amazon :( )
But its a brilliant camera and without a doubt worth that price!! I couldn't recommend it enough.

Bought the wife one. A nice little SLR, takes good quality photo's, seems to take slightly better photo's than my own D90 sometimes ;-)

    That's a great price BTW

Cheers, was thinking about getting the girlfriend one for her birthday.

Was looking at the Canon 550D but this one looks just as good and can't say no to that price!

Flying out on the 19th anyone know how long the offer will last?

I would ring ahead before you go. The guy reckons they were selling like hot cakes since the price drop.

Its a great camera. Easy to use to even for novices like myself.

Just to let you know John, I found your staff member who sold me the camera to be very good (T2). Not pushy, unlike some other sales people Ive encountered.

I assume it's possible to get a vat receipt here - thinking of buying this for my company?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭rcottere

It is also possible to get an extra €50 cashback on this particular camera. I bought one recently through amazon and apllied for the cashback which I received a few weeks later in the form of a prepad Visa card with €50 credit, full details here: http://www.nikon.co.uk/sites/cashback/RedemptionD3100Lens.aspx?c=ROI. So €367 for this camera is a superb deal. Excellent camera by the way, bought it to replace my Nikon D40x.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭djfattony2000

Just to confirm, does that apply to the standard Nikon d3100 kit with the 18-55mm Nikon lens? Or does it have to be with an extra Nikkor lens? Or are they the same thing and I am now just highlighting my lack of camera knowledge? :D

Edit: I just checked my camera and indeed it does come with a NIKKOR lens!

I was able to get a vat receipt in January of this year for a canon camera bought there.

Well I phoned around 3 bells today and he had them at €418, maybe you got the village idiot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 543 ✭✭✭terencemc

I love that - I specifically said the "D3100" kit and he said the only thing he has is a "D-300 S" for over €1000...some spanner !

Does anyone know if I can use my cc and buy it over the phone and pick it up next month when on holiday ?

I was talking to a lad in T1 and he said you could reserve to a max of a week in advance

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,476 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Just got my hands on this camera today, first DSLR so can't comment much WRT the camera itself, priced at €417.26, filling out the details as we speak on the €50 Nikkon cashback which is in the form of a prepaid VISA card. Great deal so thanks again OP and rcottere for the €50 link details, that sealed the deal for me...

Usually these shops are for departures only (i.e. from Dublin).

no - only when departing. he could get one on the way back to the uk, arrange for it to be picked up later on the buy and return scheme, send you the pick up docket by post and you'd go out the airport to collect it using the docket at the collect point (just outside arrivals).

    €445 delivered here:
    http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=11972&setcurrency=eur
No idea about the site but looks like the next best thing for anyone not using the airport.

Strong word of warning on Simply electronics. Search elsewhere on Boards for horror stories...

The name rang a bell but I couldn't remember where from or what the consensus was.
Might be best to take a holiday after all.
I'll be flying on the 5th of July. Anyone reckon they might still be there by then?

    Hi John, all.
I'm flying next week and I'd like to buy one, but unfortunately both the inbound and outbound flights are after midnight, so one of the staff told me over the phone that I can't pick one up. Do any of you guys know if I would be able to get in the duty free zone without a boarding pass just to pick up the camera? I could go with the reservation from the airline to justify myself. If that's not an option, what would be the best way to go about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭tigershould

fyi - they have 7 left as of just now !

sorry, i've just taken one, so 6 left :)

Reserved one of those bad boys there...The guys said he has a 55-200 lens for 140. As a beginner, can some one advise me if that is an appropriate lens to ensure good pictures across the whole zoom spectrum?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,501 ✭✭✭gnolan

So is there any possibility of anyone picking up a second camera for me?! Have no flights planned for the future and would love one of these cameras. Based in Dublin.

Does anyone know if it is the 18-55 VR lens that comes with it?

I'll find out tomorrow, but not sure when I'll be back online after that.

Was passing through airport today, its gone up to 486euro now. It only went up in price today!!!!!!! I was talking to manager and he won't budge back to old price...Sickner it was, it was a deal breaker for me so didn't buy it....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭raveni

It's still one of the (if not the) cheapest prices for it.

makes me feel better about the euro 660 that I paid for the canon 600d - was thinking about returning it and getting the 3100 with the rebate but I told myself that I'd learn to appreciate the manual video on the 600d - now that the price has gone up I'll keep it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,016 ✭✭✭mad m

Well to be honest the last price was a steel with the rebate, but seeing as im state side and Costco only around corner this is looking attractive

    Nikon D3100 LINK

thanks OP and poster who advised about the rebate. so glad i got this before the price went up.

i'm no expert but the 18-55 doesnt seem to have a massive zoom on it? i'll be trying the camera out this weekend so will see.

i was considering the 55-200 lens dixons offered for €150 but i just got rattled when the sales agent tried selling me memory cards, cases etc and declined it.

from what i understand a 18-200 lens is available which would do the job of both the 18-55 and 55-200 lens.

im considering selling the 18-55 lens and going for this.

any tips (what and where to buy) much appreciated. (or maybe i'll venture over to the camera forum for the first time :)

I was going to buy one of these this Friday but I won´t now. If your going to have a deal, specify the dates and inform the customer when the price will rise again. Don´t just suddenly change the price. Okay, it´s still a good price but for me, about the principle too.

Picked it up at the OPs price and gave it a run on the holliers. Impressed so far, though it is my first DSLR. Much to learn!

Now to sort out the rebate. Woohoo.

Got one at the OPs price aswell.
Could anyone recommend a good zoom lens to use with it ?
I'm a newbie with DSLRs so any advice is appreciated

Also, does anyone know of any good lens cleaning kits to use with it...My grubby hands did a bit of damage on the first day.

This seems the natural choice going on Amazon reviews - 55-200 with VR

you might be surprised how seldom you use a tele zoom lens. unless you you have a use in mind a fast prime might be a lot more use to you. 50mm f1.8 or 35mm f1.8 are both great choices.
