Have googled but to no avail, so thought you guys might be able to help.

My friend was on the dole (JSA) but is now doing a FAS course (so they keep their JSA plus get a bit extra).

She was told at the start that it is a full time course and that no holidays are allowed.

My wedding is coming up at the end of August and she will be attending and will have to take 2 days off her course.

So my question is, would she be allowed take 2 days off for my wedding and would she lose any of her payment?

I dont think they can physically stop her from taking the days off but she wont get paid for them.

Thanks, would she lose an awful lot? Or just 2/5 of her payment (looking at it as 5 days course, 2 days off)

BTW your friend does not keep her JSA while on FAS course. FAS pay her so she needs to speak to them about taking 2 days off.

Tbh I would think that there is some proviso for this sort of thing but not sure.

This was my experience on a Fas course. You can take a small amount of time for events like these, but you wont be paid for them. She would lose payment for just her two days, and be paid for the three she attends.

Just finished doing a fas course. She will be docked unfortunately. You won't be docked if its a car nct/job interview/sick day provided you have proof but for anything else unfortunately you get docked. She will lose the 2 days payment plus 2 days less from her means and the 2 days from her travel allowance if she gets it.

Hi, yes you should if its not an appointment or car nct or something. It won't effect you any other time just those two days you will be docked the 2 days pay, plus travel allowance (if you get it) and the means (if you get it).

As regards if its a big deal, 2 days probably won't make much of a difference but you wouldn't want to be constantly missing days. Depending on the length of your course too and how hard it is. Once you pass the necessary exams and try to be there the rest of the time you will get certified. When you start missing days you miss out on a lot and it can make exams harder.

Best of luck with your course:)
