Iv a 07 passat lads, the fcuking (electronic) parking break is acting up, the dash has two warning lights and an audible warning...and the parking break wont disengage so basically i cant get the yoke to go anywhere. Bring it to a garage or call a tow truck aside is there any way of resetting it, removing fuses or anything I can do to fool it and get moving again. Thanks in advance

update.. Disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and no use. Desperation levels high.

Try this from a passat forum:

unplug the battery for 10 minutes then plug it again then press the breaks for 35 seconds
after that, while pressing the breaks press the e-breaks for 10 seconds..
(( i think these are the right times ))
then the cars computer will restart and the problem will be fixed !!

I think there is a software update for this issue from VW. I remember my uncle's 07 Passat had a similar issue and had a software upgrade done by the dealer.

Might be worth giving a dealer or VW a call to see if it needs to be updated.

Do these still have a normal hand brake? How do you hold the car when you are doing a hill start in traffic?

You just leave the handbrake on and it comes off by itself when you try to drive off.

Pain in the arse of a system really unless your hand is so weak that you can't pull a simple lever, I did drive a Passat with this electric handbrake couldn't see the advantage to it at all

Imagine having one of them whilst doing the driving test, I wonder what would they think of it :D I was behind one of them recently on a hill and it came back about a foot or two before the driver held the car so I suppose some people have trouble with it.

They are allowed i think because they come standard with the car and not an after market addon.

I imagine they aren't much use for handbrake turns or for when the foot brake fails. I remember it taking a second or two to apply

I know a woman on her 3rd new type passat and she still cannot use the brake. How much simpler can it be?
A proper functioning system will not let the car back if the person knows that it releases itself. Some people still try to release the brake instead of allowing it do its thing.

To the OP, Im sure someone with VAGCOM would get it moving again.

The electronic brake as fitted to vw and audi models is much better than any handbrake for stopping the car in emergency. If you activate the energency brake system by keeping the button pushed/pulled at speed, all 4 wheels will be braked reasonably hard bringing the car to a stop.

    Where are you based?

The guys in work tell people to disconnect the positive terminal from the battery for 5 mins and that reset's the hanbrake temporarily, but long enough to get going and leave it off.

    The 07 onwards Passat's seem to be OK - don't suppose it's a really early 07 reg that's possibly an MY06 build?

The good news is that it's now a relativley quick and cheap fix. Don't take it back to VW - your local indy should be able to do it for around €50 in less than 30 mins.

Electronic brake light flashing..... Left rear brake sounds like it is stuck.... the car will drive but i can hear the brake sticking... what damage will I do if I drive it to the garage about 10 miles from here..... He is not a VW mechanic . The brakes were done last year( Not by my local mechanic ) and I have not put up big miles since

You'll need to take it to someone who knows what they are doing and who also has the software to flash the ecu to reset it.

Sounds like the motor has seized in the caliper. Happened mine as well. Where you located?

Do NOT put the handbrake on until this has been checked

Ive tried, its a nice party trick!
I actually prefer the system to the normal lever. Very Phaeton..

Give George Dalton or Nissan Doctor a PM on here and they may be able to advise someone to go.

Yes and seeing as the parking brake only controls the rear wheel brakes, this emergency stop function works on a completely different system. It works on the main brake hydraulic system, automatically pressurising it thereby applying stopping force to all 4 wheel.
