    Hi..
Was looking to bring the kids out cycling a bit more but good safe cycle tracks are hard to find... Can anyone recommend good off road tracks which are safe for kids and adults alike... Website maybe?? In the northeast but don't mind traveling if it's worth it...

    thanks..

Northeast as in Louth? What distance are you looking for? I can't really think of anything off road. But these would be grand.

Carlingford to Whitestown A-B is a main road but with a very wide hard shoulder. B-D is a very quiet back country road. Starts at the Cooley Inn and takes you to Lily Finnegans pub along the coast. I used to love that road as a kid.

Dundalk Bypass. A-D is pretty much all cycle lane. A-B is completely separated from traffic. D-E has no cycle lane but isn't that busy anymore. You can get from E to A through a new park. There's also a playground in St. Helena's park to the south of the river.

Edit: on the Newry there is a graveyard we used to love cycling round as kids with our towny cousins.

Seatown Dundalk You can go further than point B to the end and come back up the Point Road.

There is a nice quiet coastal road at Annagassan.

If you're not too far from Dublin...

Here's a map of the routes (and planned routes) along the Dublin canals and bay.

There's also a large amount of off-road cycle tracks in the Phoenix Park.

I know it's a bit of a journey but the green way in Mayo in well worth a spin down. Uses a disused railway track and is very flat. Your kids will love it. Bring a picnic as you can spend hours out.

Hotel westport does a room for €59. Good value!

I was down there a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

    Thanks all...
It's hard to find decent off road tracks suitable for children and very amateur adults.. I read somewhere about a park in Offaly I think that had lots of cycle tracks but I can't find it now...

    Will visit the Park soon...
The green way sounds perfect... weekend away later in the summer maybe.

Maybe you were thinking of Portumna Forest Park? There's a good few kms of purpose built cycle trails in the forest which are perfect for children - flat and safe but still fun and interesting. Check out the Coillteoutdoors website for more info.
