    playing in the club singles matchplay on monday. is a mate allowed play in the group, whilst i take on the other guy in the matchplay?

    Actual rule or just bad form? It's not like the guy is going to caddy for me!

    both, if this was allowed everyone could bring their mate and he could make sure he gave you all the lines for putts by ensuring he was putting on your line

    Afaik it's not breaking any rule, but it is bad form/etiquette.
    If you were to bring him just as your caddy, it wouldn't be as bad as him playing along, although caddies are usually only used in inter club games, e.g. Senior and Junior cup etc.

    I think it's really unfair so I'd avoid it if at all possible.

    Don't know the rule though.
