The same thing happens almost all the time.

They qualify at a canter, end up getting through the group at the major tournament despite stumbling against teams they should beat, and then end up getting knocked out against the first decent, organised side they face in the knock-out stages before the media realise the team aren't as good as they built them up to be.

I disagree. He's a decent 7/10 player most weeks with the odd top performance thrown in, but because of his excellent season at Villa and his big money move to Manchester City he was built up by the media to be some sort of superstar and now people think they have to see top performances from him every week.
