    Race course
    Race details

I went up to take photos of this a couple of years ago and it looks like a great day out. It's a late kick off at 7pm but there's a BBQ after with live music or at least there was the year I went up, maybe someone could let us know.
I know there's a few boardsies going up already and it would be a good race for those thiking of Dunshaughlin 10km.
Course looks like it has PB potential.

    A great race
Lovely atmosphere, fast course from recollection and a great party afterwards
I'm signed up and the good lady is signed up as a walker
Here's hoping the weather is as good as it was last year

Last year the kids ran in the main race- there wasn't a kids race per se but they allowed them run with the adults

The Rennicks Cup/Fr. Delaney Memorial 5 Mile Race promoted by Bohermeen AC in September has children races on before, around the 400m track.

This race is a family/community focused event. While there will be a speedy contingent at the front of the field, all others are welcome to take part in the race/ramble/jog/walk.

Yes you can. Get there early, though, as the start was put back last year due to the numbers of on-the-day entries

    I second that-
The queue for the on the nighters was massive compared to the non existant pre reg queue;)

Nice race, lovely course and great value for €15. free high viz jacket and trophy before and as many burgers, sandwiches and buns as you could eat after the race.:pac:

Just a pity the race started half an hour late and that there were way too many slow runners at the front at the start. I was only about 5m back from the start line but there was almost a pile up and I briefly touched the ground in the first few metres. I think the race director could have made more of a point of getting slower runners to the back, he barely mentioned it before the race.

nice little trophy alright! Crazy at the start line alright, prob one of the harder 5k races, most of it uphill, not a hope of getting a pb 5k there!!

Found the course hard enough but satisfied with the time. 2nd year doing it and there's a nice atmosphere about it but they had start time problems last year as well. They'd be wise to review their pre race set-up Unfortunately for me the queue for grub was so long that we couldn't wait, the kids were way too restless.
Overall a great value race and they managed to get good weather again.

The start was a bit messy alright but overall i would highly recommend it. Great value for 12 euro. Dont know what kind of courses you normally run but i would never consider that a hilly course. I have got a PB there 2 years in a row.

There must have being a gang of 20 of us at the end, seasoned runners saying for a 5k it was very hard! like at 2miles of it was an incline! What time did you get if you dont mind me asking? My dads being running since the 80,s and he said he has rarely seen a 5k like it,so must be some truth!

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. Yes the third mile was tough, but not that bad. Overall I'd say the course was neither hard nor easy.

Dont know if i would class myself as a seasoned runner but running about 4 years now. I got around in 18.05,a PB again. I've ran much harder courses than that though. That just my opinion.

Got to agree that not that bad.. there were some inclines but tame compared to some other races. There were a good few people in my group disappointed with their time but that was largely due to the exceptional times they achieved in the Na Fianna / Enfield 5k a couple of weeks earlier. Have to check now if Boards have explanation for that (probably better off not knowing as most of my group including myself got PBs at it ;))

Btw Patrick Bell definitely gets 5 stars for post race atmosphere

Has to be one of the best 5km races going....tough around the 3-4km section though. Atmosphere is brilliant and the BBQ after the event makes it even more memorable. LMFM said there were 800 at it. Roll on next Friday and the Braveheart 5km trail run!

From my understanding I don't think there is any mystery - the Enfield Na Fianna race is a very flat and fast 5km - look back over results over the past few years - and it has had fast times - their course has not changed in atleast 4 years (or maybe more). it is a genuinely fast flat course - no twists and turns and all left-turns.

Bohermeen is a good tough 5km - not the hardest - but it is a testing course. However I have seen some great times (over all levels and abilities over the years on it!)

While both races are 5km races - that is about as far as comparisons can really go in terms of races - they are different courses - the common denominator is that they are both fantastic races, run by clubs for runners, not for profit, and seem to be getting more popular as a spot on people's calendar every year.

Great race and great spread afterwards, only two area's to improve IMO (i) the start was a joke, race was delayed and we had no idea when the race was starting. When it did we were caught behind the walkers and (ii) Finish line was far from ideal. I could see a large que of people lining up at the finishing line waiting to be processed (for positions & placings). Tidy these two up and this would be a 5 star event hands down ;)

2011 results only show the top 100 places so far. Full results should be up in a few days.

Anyone else thinking of heading up to this race this year? On the 9th of June (next Saturday) @ 7.30 pm. Apparently there is a new, faster course as I've heard the old course had a few sharp climbs. Anyone connected with the club know anything about the new course? Fast/slow/PB potential?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭ronnie085

Thinking about it myself, the only thing putting me off is the reports of delays at the start for the last couple of years, ah I'll be there no doubt

Yeah that's really the only negative thing I've picked up from reading the thread. And if the new course is flatter than the previous one then it's all sounding good, especially all this I've heard about the pre race BBQ!

Quoted from the Bohermeen AC Facebook page:

"A new fast flat course for this years Patrick Bell race ,a PB is almost certain".

Apparently it takes in some of the course of the half marathon they hosted earlier in the year.

I believe its the 5k course that was used in conjunction with the half marathon. That was a lovely course. Had my best 5k time for 3 years on it!!

I'm heading down to this as my 2 brothers have been challenging me to a race for about 5 years so we are having a sibling battle.

I ran this in a previous life and remember the old course being decent enough with a couple of hills in the first mile or two but a quick run for home.

The 7.30pm start time is a bit off putting if it will start late so hopefully it runs on time this year.

The Bohermeen 5km is the next run in the 2012 Meath Running League. Please support the races in the Meath Running League. ALL these races are organised by volunteers from local athletic clubs, they have Athletics Ireland permits and fulfill the standards and criteria set out by the sports governing body. These races are organised to support the development and maintenance of facilities for young athletes and make significant financial contributions to many local and national charities.

First time I've had a gun waved in my face at the start of a race but I enjoyed it none the less. Great night in Bohermeen.

All these meath races are great but all seem to have the same problems with narrow starts that take too long to get going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭corny

Why they can't draw, with chalk or something, a prelim start line 5 or 10 metres before the actual line and make sure people don't cross it is beyond me. Anyway great race otherwise and great to see the club so well supported. Excellent burger btw!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭chinguetti

Yeah the start was a right mess. Saw parents bringing their kids up to the front where they were in a bad position to get trampled esp after the false start. Can't understand how they don't see it as dangerous. Said it was dangerous to one mother who gave me a look of pure dirt. Likewise people trying to get at the front with headphones on full blast. Then again it happens in all races now days and doubt it will ever stop.

Overall a 4 out of 5, great spread afterwards of food and a lovely evening for it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,545 ✭✭✭tunguska

Whopper race, 5/5 for me. Good depth of field, nice course, great spread, top marks. Hiliarious false start though, some old boy waving a gun in my face telling me to get back. Cracked up laughing but said to a lad beside me that the gun would go off accidentally.........which it did, almost rendering some bloke deaf. Aside from that it was a brilliant evening, puts commercial races like the samsung night race to shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,370 ✭✭✭pconn062

Good race, the start was a bit of a mess, too cramped and after the false start a I ended up stuck behind a few "portly" men and women only three rows from the front who proceeded to jog when the gun went, involving a few gymnastics from me to get round them. The false start was hilarious, the starter was Tommy Neary from my club Dunleer AC, hugely experienced but when the gun went off by accident he was nearly steamrolled by 800 runners!! :D His first ever false start and hopefully his last, we were having a good laugh with him about it afterwards.
