    No NCT disc? Fair enough..

Out-of-date NCT disc? Yeah, that's harsh!

So even if you have a valid NCT but no disc displayed (for whatever reason) you have to go?
Seems like a big waste of time to me

My car is 12 years old. Now I must get it tested every year. I've seen 5 y/o cars with bald tyres, dodgy lights, cracked windscreens etc. Sad thing is if I had held on to my '76 Escort I wouldnt need to get it tested at all.

    +1

And the garda has to decide to prosecute you, which seems to not happen very often - unless you are really asking for it, or are driving a complete henhouse.....

according to the penalty point offence list, it is now a mandatory court apperance if caught without an nct disc/cert

That's the way it's always been from day one of the NCT.
So even if you have a valid NCT but no disc displayed (for whatever reason) you have to go?
Seems like a big waste of time to me

No, you'll get 10 days to produce the cert at the Garda station of your choice. If you don't, then it'll go to court.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

No, the mandatory court appearance is for "Using vehicle (car) without test certificate", the NCT disc is not a test certificate no more that your insurance disc is an insurance certificate. Present your certificate when requested and you won't have to appear in court if it was valid at the time you were stopped.

Wasnt that the change that came in there last year where everyone was suddenly applying for a test. What everyone forgot though was that only if the gardai actually brings a case which they rearly will unless you are a complete asshole when you speak to them.
Anyway, no real reason to be on the road without a test or at least a test or retest date. In you have test booked, there is no chance of being brought to court.

Ye, if I remember correctly it was always a court appearance with fine, now it's a court appearance with fine & 5 points.
