Help forgot to send log book & tax is up

    So bought a car 2mths ago ... thought the log book had been posted with tranfer of ownership details but found it in my glovebox today so obviously it completely slipped my mind.. Tax is up now - but will take couple of wks to get log book back when sent off - how can I get the tax sorted in the meantime?

    What should normally happen is the previous owner is supposed to send the book off with both your signitures to get it switched over to your name.

    I found myself in a similar hole before, what I did was:

    Contacted the previous owner and got the online renewal pin which had already been sent to him in the post.

    Renewed online and changed the address while doing so, so the disc would come to me. You cannot change the name. This can only be done by sending off the log book to the dept of transport.

    Recieved disc in post which had my address and the previous owners name. Then sent off the log book, which is what should have been done at point of sale:)

    You could also just send off the log book and wait for the updated logbook in the post. Go into your tax office with insurance details, id and NCT cert and updated logbook and they'll tax the car for you no problem.
