Was just down at my local garden centre and got some lovely plants (pelargonium, peony, camelia, hibiscus, passion flower and acer). Speaking to my mother just now and she said that she'd heard that nothing should be planted this weekend because it was forcast that the temperature was going to plummit and there would be frost this weekend.

    Anyone heard about this?

Your mother is exaggerating. Today the temps are in the low to mid twenties and very nice it is too. By Monday it'll be in the mid to low teens. A ten degree drop, yes, but from a height. From above normal temps to slightly below normal. Still sunny but with showers knocking about. A slight ground frost at night is an outside possibility outside cities in sheltered spots in the first few nights of next week.

I thought as much. I'll get them in the ground first thing in the morning so.

    This is from Met.ie tonight:

Daytime temperatures in the low to mid-teens and the nights chilly particularly Tuesday and Wednesday nights with ground frost likely in rural areas with air minima expected in low single figures.

Best be prepared to cover anything that might be prone to frost damage on those nights.

And from irishweatheronline - might be worth holding back a week, specially for frost sensitive plants

TONIGHT … Very chilly with rain, drizzle and fog covering most of the north and west. Showers also developing in the southeast. Rainfall amounts 10-15 mms except 2-5 mms southeast. Lows reaching 5 C and winds rather light in the north, W-NW 15-25 mph across the south.
Conditions from tonight through Thursday will resemble almost wintry weather, it could become uncomfortable or even dangerous for those exposed to the elements for long intervals.
TUESDAY … Rain and unseasonably cold for most, with the risk of sleet or wet snow developing on northern hills especially above 500m. Highs 8-10 C at low elevations and 4-7 C at higher elevations. The south will have variable cloud and frequent showers with some hail and thunder. Highs here 12-15 C. Rainfall amounts of 20-30 mms possible in most areas but more variable in the south where some places could escape with only 5 mms or so. Westerly winds 10-20 mph.
WEDNESDAY … The cold rain with high elevation sleet will slowly push east becoming more confined to eastern Ulster but it will remain showery in the wake of the steady rain. Showers or thundershowers in the south. Morning lows of 3-7 C and afternoon highs of 8-13 C will be close to record low values. A further 10-30 mms of rain possible.
THURSDAY-FRIDAY … Continued very cool and unsettled. Rainfall will become showery in all regions, with hail and thunder quite frequent in the showers. Lows 3-7 C and highs 12-15 C. Winds generally WNW 15-30 mph.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Ground frost in June? Really? Just opened the window and by the feel of it it's still at least 10c. Not a chance it will drop below zero here (Dublin) tonight

Forecast has gradually worsened for the last few days for the rest of the week. Exceptionally cold airmass (for time of year) coming in from northwest. Frost risk is still only in rural areas and probably inland and northern half of the country only. Could be some significant hail showers knocking around the next few days too.

I knew the talk last week of heatwaves was just hyperbole but this is quite the other extreme!

It doesn't have to be below 0c in order for frost to occur:)

Temperature doesn't need to go below 0c for frost damage. And air temperatures are usually higher than ground temperatures. Thermometers are useful tools for gardeners.
Personally, I would keep tender plants indoors until the temps are forecast to rise - checking in here on a regular basis is way better than any other forecast available.
