i saw this on you tube and was wondering why are companies still developing these technology demos for faster and faster helicopters when the tilt rotor system has been proven to be a better option. i think this is a little strange for a setup as loading and unloading would be difficult with a rotor spinning in your face. thought i'd put up a post and see what everyone else thought of it.

Tiltrotors were proven to be a better option when? They have massive stability issues.

Personally i think tilt rotor is a brilliant idea but give the size needed verses the size needed for something like the x2 x3 etc, the x2 x3 would be the better option, just compare the ba 609 to an ec 135, helicopters advantage is being able to get in where nothing else can something as big as the ba 609, looses that ability in certain situations, where as something like to x2 x3 but configured for rescue or the like, is far more reliable, also factor in the stability issues, and extra training needed.

Comparing the sizes all most people see is a sleak looking aircraft and think ya that can go anywhere, but is almost as big as an s-61, is with altogether with rotors is iirc 3 feet shorter than an s-61 (62ftx60ft) and length is 11ft? compared to an ec-135 which is 40ft x 34ft iirc.

I'm not knocking tilt rotors or the ba 609, just giving my opinion.

the speed in level flight of the x2 or x3 is very little so why stick on the big props on the side. when that touches down the props have to be shot down before a door can open where as the tilt rotor is ready to load or unload when down. the money spent on development for the sake of what an extra 40 knots i just think the development could go on better things rather then reinventing the wheel, try something else. just my opinion
