Am I stressed?

    Hi there,

    It's a simple question: Am I stressed?

I may be a million miles off the mark here but it's one of only a few possible explanations I can come up with.

A couple of weeks ago I started to itch. All over. Scalp. Arms and legs. Crotch. Eyes. At first I put this down to some mite or bug that was in my house that was having me for lunch. I deloused the place, the best I could and went and got some fly/bug repellents for both myself and the house. And it only seemed to happen to me when I was in my own house. Made sense it was something in the actual house, right?

A result of all this itching and scratching was that I was unable to sleep, and that left me next to useless the next day in work. Not to mention cranky and lacking in energy.

I now think the house is not the problem as the condition seems to come and go. One night I am fine, the next it's back, bad as ever. I went to the doctor and he proscribed anti-histamines, which don't seem to be making any difference. The itching has developed into an odd numbness in my hands and feet, pins and needles almost, and a 'hair-standing-on-end' feeling around my scalp. I had to get some sleeping pills from a friend to help me sleep. I am sleeping but it's not a refreshing rest I am getting.

I did suggest stress to the doctor and he agreed it was possible but I simply could not point to any one thing in my life that I felt was causing me distress and anxiety. Ok, work is not perfect. It's a surreal, directionless environment with little in the way of organisation from the top down. While this does nothing for staff moral I never thought it was something that affected me unduly. Perhaps it is.

So, is it possible to be stressed and anxious and not be fully aware of it? I will be returning to the doctor next week but I just thought I'd throw it out here and see if anyone recognises the symptoms.

Just as I type this up I can feel my eyelids jitter and my scalp crawl. Horrid.

    Thank you for reading.

    CJ
