What do people make of this 2000 Reg BMW 5 series. Need to pick up a car to use for a few months and always wanted one of these! Will hold onto it and use it less once company car should be sorted before Christmas. Taxed till later in the year, 2 grand from a main dealer and looks in good nick with relatively low mileage...what ya reckon..suit my purpose?

Might have a look at it tomorrow.

The tax is worth about 250. there won't be a warranty as its a trade sale. It's manual too.

You could find similar for 1k. Check the bangeromics section. there's a rake of e39s around. Get a cheap one and do some preventive maintainence

Amazing, not too long ago this car was hailed as the best saloon car in the WORLD, now cheap as chips, you have to love depreciation.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    It doesn't have NCT?

Anyway, as Colm said, there are lots of cheap E39 5-series for sale. Make sure you get a good one though!

Car looks like its worth checking out. It has nice spec for an SE. M sport multi function steering wheel, digital climate control and leather seats. The tax is a nice bonus too. With only 80k on clock there should be service history also. Spend €50 for a mechanic to put it up on a ramp and give full check over.

or for that budget get an absolutely mint E34.

But the E39s ARE great in fairness to them. Once you look after them like you're supposed to.... and few people do.

i know the OP is looking for a runaround, but this is so much more, it would be worth keeping alongside his company car

Nice, with all the work he's done to it there should be another 100,000 miles in that car without big bills. Should be tight as drum to dive too.

Pics are old enough - look at the price of fuel in the last pic

When was a litre of fuel €1.19? Last year?

pics might be a least a year old, possibly even more, but that car has been fastidiously maintained by an E34 fan. In the bangernomics thread, there's a link to a BMW forum giving more detail on that specific car. If i had the money spare i'd go for it in a shot.
