    Hi,

Ive been called in to start working in a Big 4 firm in August. As I will be in tax I didnt expect to be starting work so early. I have CAP 1's and CAP 2's. Any idea anyone why the start date is so early for tax?

They may be pretty flexible about start dates, as there will probably be a couple of different intakes. If August is too soon for you, you could just ring them up and see if you can start a bit later - they'll probably be fine about it.

September and October would be really busy in tax with december corporation tax deadlines and all the income tax deadlines...maybe they are bringing you in in august to get you use to doing tax before the busy time starts and people would be to busy to show you how

Open to correction here but -

Many firms operate their financial year on a calendar year basis - i.e. their reporting period is 01 January - December 31. The Corporate Tax filing deadline is the 21st day of the ninth month following year end (23rd for ROS filing).

So it is likely that the firm you are joining will have a large number of clients whose year end is December 31 and who therefore need to file their returns by Sept 21 the following year - the most common Corporate Tax deadline.

Also, the personal tax deadline for chargeable (non PAYE) persons is October 31, so Sept and October tend to be the busiest months for tax departments.
