Northern Ireland takes all sterling, its own banks, bank of england, and bank of scotland.

Its spending Northern Bank and Bank of Scotland in England thats a problem. Especially in the southern part of England, alot of shops dont know what it looks like or are familar with it.

I got asked one time was a Northern banknote counterfeit when I was in Manchester. I explained to the person that usually when you fake a note you make it look like the others. :D

They laughed, looked at it again, and took it.

I'm living in Derry, and it's taken no problem at all. It's all money here :D When I was going to England, I only took Bank of England notes though, cause as someone was saying, the notes from here are not very readily accepted. Also, you'll be able to use your bank card here with no fee. If you get notes in change, it's acceptable to ask if they have any Bank of England notes in most places, just explain that you're heading back and it's difficult to spend those notes in England. The fivers are pretty common here; more so than the 10s and 20s.

They very rarely accept in the north east of england too, I have experienced it.
