Advice for a dodgy knee??

Hi. I had an op on my knee over a year ago to remove some cartridge - this has helped a great deal and long walks never result in pain! So, I've started jogging again. I'm at it 3 weeks now on the treadmill and up to 25 mins steady jog with 5 mins brisk walk each side. The thing is, my knee is pretty painful the day following the workout.

I'm 38 and not in too bad shape - not overweight as such but definitely need to tone up, lose the gut and increase my stamina. I was also told by the physio post op that my upper leg muscles are not great - inherited my dads skinny legs. :o

    Any advice? Thanks :)

for a dodgey knee id think avoid the threadmills and replace for with a jog in a field (all though its sumer and the ground is pretty hard :o

how ever i had patella tendonitus in my left knee and was unable to continue my workouts and jogs as the pain was to intense.
i was advised to rest it by a doc and as a result i was down
ten months doing nothing but been unhealthy and feeling fat and bad about myself and the pain wasnt really subsiding
i took up golf after trying swimming (which did flare it up despite doc / physios saying it would help it seemd to make it worse)
so anyway i started taking fish oil,s and Glucosamine and Chondroitin suppliments
am anow back training and doing squats / deadlifts / spin classes and not having trouble .. HOWEVER I do miss giving the threadmill a lash and tried the other day at 12kph for 3 mins and has to come off as i was feeling it irritate the tendon. But its not all bad as i can jog 30 - 40 mins every 2 - or 3 days and not have bothor if i keep on the grass

    hope this helps

    sorry fot the speling :(

I was told that the treadmill is good because it helps absorb impact?

Hmmm... friends and advice, eh! :D

What about a neoprene support? I have a Vulcan that fits nicely.

the treadmill would be better than you than running on roads or hard ground , but theres still impact just less of it .
I find swimming , cycling a lot better for my knee or hill walking is fine cause a lot of it is on soft enough ground.
