Slim tyres for a mountain bike?

I have a hardrock sport mountain bike, and I use it to cycle to college -5 miles to,and another 5 miles home- each day.

Is it possible to get slim tyres, to reduce the surface friction/ resistance ,or would I need to buy new wheels?

Would I notice much of a difference in using slimmer tyres, would it make the journey less tiring ?

Just saw these recommended in another thread. Could suit your needs well. Otherwise, yeah, you're looking at new wheels.

I've a pair of Continentals 26x 1" inc matching tubes. Virtually unused.
If you are interested in them let me know and we'll work out a price!

You'd notice a difference alright, nothing spectacular but enough to be impressed.
I have the cityjets in 26x1.5's on my commuter mountain bike and they roll quite well.

A little slippy but not as much as racing tires and no chance on an icy road but
otherwise really great and have lasted me for ages

I've recently put some road tyres on my MTB. The question would be if you're looking for slim tyres or just road tyres??

Slim tyres would probably require new wheels, but your LBS should be able to put road tyres on the MTB wheel no problem.

And I certainly notice a difference between the nobbly tyres and the road tyres, much easier to use.
