We have a Chinese tea set at home that is in excellent condition. On the bases there is a Chinese letter in gold paint and they are all hand painted in a traditional Chinese design.

Unfortunately we have no idea of the age and I won't be able to get pictures up until the weekend but until then has anybody any idea if they are worth anything?!

It could be worth something , but the chances are that it is Japanese Satsuma tea-ware ( which could also be valuable)

Of course I havent seen a photo yet ... but you often see the 'gold' charachters on the base .

Looking forward to the pics !

They sound like they are of the Tang dynasty, I'd say they're worth about Eur 20,000.

Very good Coyle , is that an offer ?

You dont see Chinese porcelain with gold painted charachters unless its imperial ( and even that is rare). At least I've never seen it anyway .
The Satsuma is usually gold, red, or black ......... thats why I say it .

    Still , we'll wait for a photo

    Sorry for the delay.

On closer looks, it doesn't seem as special as we once thought! :( :P

    Some pictures anyway:

The handle of the cup (has little ridges on it!).

There is more than a teapot and cup but they're just the pictures I took!

    Japanese Kutani-ware , early 20th C .

Very much mass produced , so its not worth a huge amount .
